New ACR or New 1 of 1 TA 2.0 which one to buy ?

Just wanted to get some opinions from Viper owners ..I am trading in my 2013 GTS and was planning on getting a GTC 1 of 1 with the 2.0 Group package ...Now I am thinking about the ACR without the extreme package [ just the base car] and trying to see if the $ 12,000 upgrade from the GTC is worth it.. ...Just wanted opinions on when I sell the car in a few years if I would get most of the upgraded $ 12 k out of a ACR vs a GTC TA 2.0 group car on the used market...and if the ACR car would be easier to sell than the TA 2.0 group car........[for a comparison ] I am not sure how much more a used lets say 2014 TA vs a used 2014 GTS sells for , and if it sells quicker than the used 2014 GTS.... any thoughts would be helpful...Thanks Ralph...

Really just depends on what your intentions are with the viper. I opted for the TA 2.0 due to the fact I wanted something aggressive that resembled my Gen 4 ACR and wanted to TT it. I like how the TA 2.0 needs to be customer ordered and a dealer cannot just order one for inventory. ACR is great looking though the spoiler is just massive and would contradict what I intend to Use my viper for. At the end of the day, you can't go wrong between the 2.

To add to the confusion, I read that the GTC with the ACR package has a VIN that denotes it as a GTC whereas an ACR has a VIN that denotes it as an ACR.

It shouldn't matter to anyone that wants a Viper with the ACR performance; however.

There two options for the TA2. One is the TA2 "Package" which according to the SRT site has the following: (cost $17,000 in addition to the GTC cost).

Been thinking the same thought you have...won't be tracking it that much 2-4 times a year. Cost between the GTC-ACR and the GTC-TA2 (Package) is only $2,500. But the difference between the TA2 Package and TA2 Group Viper is about $9,000. The ACR wing is so so big, but I like the stripes to be painted on the wings and you can't get that on the TA2s...Also concerned about value 15-20 years from now.

By that rationale an GTC ACR is a GTC. The GTC has the optional package for a TA 1.0 a TA 2.0 and an ACR package. As stated, the ACR has it's own VIN and has it's own designation just like the TA 1.0 and TA 2.0 packages did Only difference is they let you put ACR on the plate on the dash.

My thought (full disclosure is I do not own a genV right now) is to buy what you want and what fits your needs. Resale will appropriately reflect cost, for the most part with some rarity thrown in. Meaning, spemd more, get more on resale. Spend less, get less on resale. But the percentage will probably be close. Especially because the ACR is a serious commitment. If you are on the street but want the ability to hit the track, TA is probably more what you are looking for. I know the TA fits me better. Im not an expert driver and don't see that many track days. That doesn't mean I don't bust a chubby over the ACR. Just that I'm not in the level of drivers who can get everything out of the ACR yet. I personally think a TA will be an easier sell because the market is bigger. Thought of course, this is just my opinion.

I understand where skydeals is coming from, as I was asking myself the same question. The next Viper I purchase, I will not sell but in 15-20 years it will be given to my granddaughter (until then I will drive it). Its not an investment, as I could put the money to better use for a far better return, but I can't drive money and she enjoys doing VOA and Viper events with me. So to benefit my granddaughter the most, would a GTC/TA2 "Package" or a GTC-ACR "Package" retain its value the best - mostly if 2017 is the last year of the Viper. The reason for the GTC is I want a certain color option that I can't get a regular TA2 or ACR.

I don't understand why people decide on what car to buy even partially due to its resale value. Do people actually buy their 2nd or 3rd choice car just because they'll take less of a hit on resale? Buy what you want, keep it longer, and don't get something just because it'll be easier to get rid of. That's like going to an awful restaurant only because, if you don't like it, you'll have wasted less money.

I too don't believe in buying a car for the next owner, on expensive cars that are a passion purchase anyway. If you go 1 of 1, the differences are far less since both will have street friendly adds, like a stereo you can hear. I'm stuck on this very decision. One of my bigger concerns is front end clearance, in MD our roads are crap due to our 4 seasons, and manholes to potholes could rip the splitter right off. My GT500 splitter sits 1" lower than my GTS front end, and it's the lowest I feel safe driving around without having to worry about it, but the ACR splitter is 1-1.5" lower than that, I'm afraid it's limit my driving of the car.

But talk about no wrong choice, try to focus on what you want more ... either of those cars will sell later.

I understand your concern about resale value; if you bought your 2013 GTS new a couple of years ago, you are likely taking a pretty heavy hit on it. If you’re only concerned about value in a couple of years, I agree with those that suggested you’ll likely be better off with an ACR. If you keep the car for decades, that will likely still hold true. A “resale value” comparison between the TA 2.0 and an ACR, in 45 years might look something like that between a 440 6 Pack ‘Cuda and a Hemi ‘Cuda at auction now. The 6 Pack car brings more money than other ‘Cuda’s, but nothing like the absolute top dog, the Hemi. I think future collectors will pay big money for the car that took those 13 road course lap records.

One point of clarification: you mention a TA 2.0 Group Package… presumably you mean the TA 2.0 Package? There is also a considerably less expensive Time Attack Group 2.0 that doesn’t include nearly as much as the TA 2.0 and unlike the TA 2.0, those cars aren’t serialized and don’t have the TA badging. I don’t think that they will be as desirable on the resale market.

As far as the driving experience is concerned, presumably you’ve had an awesome time with your GTS; they’re fantastic cars to drive! If you get a TA 2.0, you’ll find the ride slightly worse, the noise level about the same, and you may miss a few things such as the power leather seats. The sound system isn’t as good as the high end system either, but it’s still really good in my opinion. The ACR ride is even rougher, the car is noisier inside, you don’t get the cockpit adjustable shocks and you get a weak 3 speaker sound system. To some people, none of that matters. That's great! To others, it will negatively affect their experience with the car. I guess you could add some of that stuff back in, but you’ll be looking at a much higher price point than if you bought a TA 2.0.

The ACR does have height adjustable shocks however, so if potholes and driveway ramps are an issue, you could set it up for a street ride height, and have more clearance than you would with a TA 2.0. I definitely need to be careful with my 2.0, but it’s manageable. Still, the ability to raise the front end up a bit on the street would be welcomed.

Do running costs matter? The Pirelli Corsa’s on the TA 2.0 offer an amazing combination of streetability (low noise, terrific steering response, no tramlining, reasonably long life and the ability to handle wet roads with aplomb) and track prowess. There’s no question that the Kumho’s on the ACR grip better, but at the expense of shorter life and compromised wet capability.

I would love to have an ACR; I am absolutely smitten with them! But, for my third Viper, I chose a TA 2.0 for a few reasons. Firstly, I’m in my 50’s, with a few aches and pains and I needed a car that was comfortable on long trips. An ACR might have been fine, but after 5,000 miles in the TA, including one 1300 mile one-way trip, I can say unequivocally that it’s exceeded my expectations in every way. And getting back to track (road course) prowess, I think that if we’re honest, the vast majority of us will never be able to wring every last tenth out of a TA, much less an ACR. I have a fair bit of track experience, but I still have a long way to go before I feel that “there’s nothing left.” It’s flat incredible out there. Insanely fast and capable compared to pretty much every other car except an ACR! Don’t forget that a 2014 TA held the Laguna Seca record until the 918 took the crown away. (And that same 2014 TA, on shaved, heat-cycled slicks took another 3 seconds off, and matched the Lap Times of the vastly more powerful, vastly more expensive McLaren P1.) It’s so nice that the TA’s big brother brought the trophy back to the Dodge display case. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that an ACR is the right Viper for everyone.

I may have answered a question that you didn’t ask. If so, my apologies. But I felt that you might appreciate my thoughts on the two cars. To reiterate, if you’re ONLY concerned about resale value, the ACR is likely the better choice. If other factors are at play, the decision may not be as clear cut.
