Advice on break-in and oil change intervals

Hello Everyone my name is Jim I'm new on this site but not to vipers so much as the new one will be my 4th had Gen 1, 3 and 5. i currently have a 2015 srt and I am awaiting delivery of my new 2016 1 of 1 GTC T/A 2.0 . My question is after reading the 2015 current manual for engine run in period the maintenance schedule states 1st oil change at 6k miles or 6 months. I have read on this forum many different opinions on oil change schedule from changing the oil at 500 miles and then every 3k. What do you guys think?

Welcome and enjoy the ride, 500 miles first change....monitor oil level, and at $100 per oil/ filter change cheap insurance. I change mine out at 500, 2000, 4000 etc.etc..

Correct, I would be changing at 500, then every 3000, or every 6 months, whichever comes first. I put about 2500-3000 per year on my Gen 5, and it gets changed every 6 months at least. MONITOR your oil levels closely. Some of these cars use none, others use a lot, at least based on the postings on this forum.

I think the engineers clearly misjudged the oil change intervals they posted on the manual. Just my opinion. As an aside, on my Dart, the manual specifes every 8000 (yes, that's EIGHT thousand) miles for daily driving. But based on my driving, my oil change light comes on about every 4.

Modern synthetics go MUCH longer than oils of old, but I still think they need to be monitored carefully.

Thank you @Space Trucking and @swexlin I am trading my current 2015 srt in on the 2016 it has roughly 4700 miles currently and is my daily driver I found that it was a quart low at 4k miles thats why I was asking for advice on this. I will go with the 500 mi 1st oil change and 2500 2nd and follow with 3k for the rest or 6 months whichever comes first. Thanks Again

Got 11500 km only 2 oil changes , had 4500 km when I done my first!
