I just installed a painted grille. Ordered a new one from Woodhouse and had them paint it. Pretty cheap. I did not paint the brake duct surround. My car is white with stripes and I did not paint the stripes through the grille because of the "V" in the center, it is in line with the stripes. I will post more pics once the weather clears and I can get the car out of the garage. Some may like it some may not. Personal choice I guess. Took only an hour to change so if I decide I don't like it at some point changing back is not hard.

    09viper,

That looks great. So much better than the large black hole. Also definitely more finished looking by not doing the brake ducts....good call

Wouldn't surprise me if the grill design/treatment will change in the next few years when they will do some minor changes to freshen up the look

Maybe a factory option in the future??

  6. #31
Wow. I thought I would like it painted, but I have to admit that it really doesn't look good.

Yes! I would like to see a full shot of the car.

The Carbon is the first factory painted grill.

Are you sure that is painted? It just looks like flat plastic without gloss

Here's another shot. You could be right. I saw the car but, I'm getting old brain fade now. It's "body matching color" anyways.

I don't like it. The grille is too busy looking, and the colors make it distracting to the eye. If someone would make a cleaner Gen 3/4 simple cross-hair grille, it would look good painted.

i think if the horizontal piece didn't have the gap in between it would look much better

Don't like the gaps on the vertical or the horizontal. If those were smooth, it would look excellent. The background grille in the center split is also distracting.

Nice catch. I missed that completely.

I kind of like it. One thing maybe worth pointing out is the durability of most aftermarket paint vs factory paint (and I should add the prep for paint). If left without a clearbra, over many miles you'll likely see more chips out of the aftermarket paint than the rest of the bumper. Small detail but a thought.

And I agree that color definitely plays a role. But I think it's a cool and easy mod to consider.

Tried filling in the spaces to make it look apart of the entire fascia. I'm no Austin but I thought I'd give it a shot. Still prefer the black.

It was confirmed elsewhere the carbon grill is not painted. Same piece as others.

I think the painted grille on my car is growing on me. I wasn't completely sure before I did it so I had someone photoshop it for me first. The gapping black hole just didn't look "Viperish" to me. More like a Ferrari. I also bought a second grille and had it painted, that way if I ever decide I don't like it I can go back to the original without having to worry about finding another grille in the future. The view from the front is the one angle of the car I think they screwed up in the design. From the rear and side it looks awesome but not from the front, at least IMO.

The Carbon is body color. I have seen it in person at the LA show. No way it's black unless they are going to go cheap with regular black in the production car.

Just pull it all out and have a black meal mesh screen in there. Spend the money getting rid of those headlights. Should have been horizontal and mean looking, like the GEN III/IV.
