This is typically the last weekend in Northern Ohio for the dragstrips. The conditions were fair with a DA of aprox +1000, however, the track surface was 50 degrees and throughout the day there was a fine mist which did not help traction. The secret to a low ET with the G5 is to get a low 60 ft time along with traction past the 60 ft mark. I did not have a run with both, however, I did have a 10.70 at 133. The 60 was poor (1.8) and the 330 was ok at 4.6 sec.
A HC G5 is going to go into the low ten's before too long. If you look at my 10.7, with a 1.80, 60 ft time, if someone gets a 1.6, 60 ft time, that will give us a 10.2-10.4 ET.
The HC engine is a little unique in that the power comes on so strong at 5000 rpm, almost like a shot of nitrous. I hit the limiter multiple times in the top of first (at the strip) because the car would break loose past the 60. To reinforce how the power comes on, I dyno'ed last week and could not get a good pull. We did five pulls and in each one the tires started to loose grip from 4400 to 5400, then, break free again at 6100. I am going to dyno again in the spring, but, I am going to bring 200 lbs of weight to add to the trunk. Even though the dyno sessions were truncated, it did show 632 hp before starting to slip, for sure it will go 650-660 hp once we sort out the traction.
I expect the Texas boys to easily break the 10.7 this winter, I am shooting for a 10.3-10.4 this spring time. Good luck Flatout.
