With the possibility of the Viper going away have you thought about selling it now or are you going to try to hold on to it for a very long time for a future investment?

I want 10 more, just because.
09 ACR With all the goodies
99 ACR TT 99 red RT/10 Roe S/C
97 B/W RT/10 TT 94 RT/10 TT
I put 144,000 on my Gen 1, added 19,000 in last 12 months to my Gen 2, so I need someone to "invest" in a Gen 3 or 4 for me and I'll see you in a few short years...
I am in the market for another used Viper. Whether they keep building more after MY2017, has no effect on my thought process. It isn't the first time that they will have stopped production.
for me, there won't ever be another car like the 1992 viper. It was a moment in time; a sensation on every car magazine cover; the must-have object of every car aficionado. Sure, the 93 looks the same, but the 92 is the car that changed everything.
A friend and I made a pact with each other: " someday, if we ever make it, we're gonna buy a viper!" We were talking about the same car that everybody was talking about at that time: the 1992.
I kept my end of the deal. To me, it's not just a great car, a rare car, or an investment. It's a flag on a mountain top to mark a milestone of achievement in a long, long journey.
Car brands come and go, but the gen 1 viper will live on as a timeless masterpiece. And my 92 will live on with me as long as I'm still kicking.
I don't see that the discontinuation of the Gen V Viper has anything at all to do with my desire to keep or sell my 16 year old Viper. They are two completely different vehicles. Did the elimination of the Pontiac brand make it more likely for guys to sell their '68 GTOs? Doubt it.
The possiblility of the Dodge Viper being discontinued doesn't make me want to sell my cars. If anything it makes me want to get more of them! I remember back in '08 at VOI X when they told us the very first night we were there that they were thinking of selling the Viper as a brand. I had a deal with my wife that I would wait to buy my second one. Well...after we walked out of dinner that night she looked at me and I looked at her. The first words out of her mouth were "Well...I know I can't stop you." LOL
I just bought my first Viper a month ago. 01 Sapphire Blue GTS. I have no plans to sell it. I look at it as an investment in pleasure.
Sell it? If anything I will buy a second one lol
After I sold my last RT/10, I kicked myself for a year. Will never make the same mistake with my ACR.
Me too. I never consider cars as a financial investment, it almost never pans out. Most "investment" cars have trouble even bringing sticker price years down the road. When I buy cars, even rare or valuable ones, it's so that I can drive and enjoy them. I always assume that I'll lose money if/when I sell. If I make a few bucks all the better, but that's not why I bought it.
Also, I don't plan on selling my Viper, it's much too fun for that.
Many cars have gone out of production and many continue to enjoy them . I not thinking of selling . I bet many had wished they bought a Hemi Cuda Convertible when it went out of production........lol !
Not selling!
Hey CapeVette, thanks for the offer on the real estate agent. I will be in Falmouth tomorrow and will possibly buy the summer house. If it falls through, I will e-mail you...
Back on topic, I will never sell my GTS. was dreaming about it way to long. Since 92 to be exact... I have owned my car for a little over 3 years now...
There hasn't been a Gen II produced in 13 years. Doesn't make me wanna sell my current Gen II now anymore or less than I did a few years ago!
Sounds good. Martin has reached out for me and has me on his e-mail list. I plan to get involved with some of the events. When you get situated on the Cape shoot me an e-mail.
Your right, but the case of the Demon may just be the fact that most people in that era found the Camaro and Mustang more desirable. Thus they sold more of those cars at the time and the same holds true today. The Viper is bit different, it's got a huge fan base that can't/couldn't afford it, explaining it's low production numbers. Like you said, who knows what the future holds..........
When I started a thread I figured most if not all would say that they plan on keeping their cars... Some would keep their cars not as future investment but just because they love the Viper..
However I really do believe the Viper will become a collector car in the future... Just because of the history and how it was seen on every single magazine worldwide when it was coming out. Everyone talk about the Viper however not everyone could afford the Viper. We all know about low production numbers, this was not a coincidence by Dodge. I don't believe the Viper was ever meant to stay in production long term. when it came out the 400 horsepower supercar was one of a kind and it wasn't meant to be compared with the Corvette. The Viper had its own identity. We all know that many Vipers have been considered total losses due to auto accidents and a clean Viper in the future I think will definitely be a collector vehicle... Hopefully we can come back in 20 years and revisit the thread and see what reality really is...
