How many people want the ACR Kumho V720 in sizes that fit standard Viper wheels?

As we probably all know, the Kumho V720 is claimed to be 2 seconds a lap faster than a slick (!!!) and has enough tread/grooves that they can be used every day. I have a business contact at Kumho Tires America and I am trying to help him build a business case for getting these tires produced. The rears will fit, but ACR uses 19" front wheels to clear the carbon ceramics. Rather than dumping 8 grand into a set of wheels I'd like to get Kumho to provide that tire in a 295/30-18 for the rest of us. Help me get a feel for how many people would buy a set of these tires if I could convince Kumho to do it!

I wouldn't worry too much. They will most likely be making them in several different tire sizes come soon. This was just the tire to prove their design works.

As i thought of the price to change my wheel setup to 19 all around just to run the Kumho's but it isn't worth the price if i can get slicks/hoosiers in OEM fitment but if Kumho makes a 295/30-18 or maybe even a 305/30-18 that will be perfect.

You can claim anything you want. There is no way a treaded tire will be faster than a real slick. Period

Both the 19" front and rear Kumhos will have been custom designed for the ACR's spring rates and down force I sure, and designed differently front from rear as the Pirelli Corsas were using different compounds and construction. That's a full-on custom setup. If Kumho did choose to make the V720 available in an 18" size you'd want to be sure it was custom for the non-ACR Vipers, and may need a different rear construction in the same 19" rear as well. There are a lot more considerations than just having the availability of a tire that will physically fit a wheel, and the slight differences become more critical at the limits of grip on a track. I would ask if they would be able to design tires for the non-ACR in the same way they did for the ACR. If they could then that would be a great step up for track rats that need an all-in-one tire. The actual time delta was the Kuhmos were 1.5 seconds faster than a Hoosier R6 at Buttonwillow on an ACR. Not totally convinced until I try a Hoosier against the Kuhmos, but can't wait to do that very test!

I would actually wait a little longer until these tires get out there and are tested by members with ACRs. Absolute performance is one thing, but how long can it maintain at that level? How many heat cycles will they last at a certain grip level and how quickly will they wear out? At what point will they get greasy in a session? Will they be prone to overheating quickly? There are so many factors other than just absolute performance to determine if this will be a great tire. From the small sampling of what we've seen, it looks like they are on course to be a tire that wears out very quickly under track use. With that said, I can't wait to try them out.

Im fairly sure he swapped to Hoosiers in Kentucky.

No I don't know. But I do know that ACRs have been to Buttonwillow and Willow Springs multiple times, presumably testing to find the ideal aero and coilover settings. Soon they will be testing at Laguna Seca

For us who daily drive our vipers and only go to the track 3 - 10 times a year, it matters how they act on streets specially for a roll racing.

I'd LOVE to have 18" 720's. I have nothing but great memories of the Ecsta XS's I used to run on my LS2 and the 710's I ran on my Z06 before Kumho got all funky with their track tire availability. I'm running my first set of R7's on my GTS and to tell you the truth I'm not real happy with their grip. I'm going to try and put some A7's on by the end of the year.....if I can get a hold of some...but some 18" 720's would be really cool to try.

That's kind of where I'm at with it, I want the most extreme streetable tire possible. Partly because I want the tires for the Virginia City Hillclimb, since I'd prefer not to trailer it and slicks there can be a little sketchy because of the big temperature variations.

If you REALLY love the Kumho XS LA Stig, I have one, new, stickered set never mounted! Was LOST/HIDDEN behind hoods in warehouse, would sell for $795 all 4 . May be 2009 dates, but never inflated or heated so degraded 2%-3% / year stored new. Could be a good, budget option for anyone running even older runcraps!

Maybe I'm not seeing things right, but that tire appears to either be running 5 degrees or more of negative camber or is inflated super high.......how can the outside edge of the tire not have any wear??

Well thanks for the offer but I'm on the path to replace both sets of my tires (street/track wheels; track wheels for the R compound). If I ran the XS's and liked them that would depress me since availability is a problem. I've only had my GTS 11 months and I've gone through 16 tires. But thanks again.
