I have a place here in CT to strip the chrome and other layers off my Gen1 wheels. Were they paint or powdercoat from the factory?

Paint
Here's an interesting part, I have the "VIP" summary sheet. It states the wheels were WFGS steel black wheels. Did they ever come black from factory in 92? I have not seen it.

Not that I know of. Cant really account for any crazy dealer specific options that may be out there though.
Sometime along the way someone chromed the original wheels. This chrome plating business will remove all the plating including the nickel and/or copper that is usually underneath.
I could just rough the chrome by blasting then powdercoating but would rather do it right then paint.
Powder Coated all Viper Gen 1-2 OEM wheels were powder coated. if someone wants to know if its powder or paint check the thickness of the coating if its powder it will be 3 to 4 mils.
if it paint 1/2 to I 1/2 mils.
Interesting that one member says painted and another says PC.
I honestly thought paint. But I absolutely could be wrong.
This seems like something Jon at partsrack would know.
Otherwise, I bet Mark Jorgensen at woodhouse knows too.
All Gen 2.... Don't know about that. As far as I can tell my wheels are polished aluminum with a clearcoat.

Good choice to get ride of the chrome and put them back to their original finish.
I have one made into a coffee table. I will look at it later but I warn you I will be pretty loaded by then so don't go trusting my answer.
Seriously, call Jon B or Mark Jorgensen. I bet they know. Seriously.
You know, I'm going to have call Jon B because I PM'd him and nothing (as I have been told, he doesn't do PM's). So then I emailed from his website and still nada. Again, it all good, I get it, they're are those who are not in to that and prefer phone call contact or personal email.
Get the right color matched properly and you can't tell the difference between a painted wheel and a powder coated wheel right next to each other.
A previous owner of my 93 had the wheels chromed. I plan to sand blast and powder coat them. Does anyone have the paint/powdercoat name or code?
Thanks
Just an FYI. As some may know, stripping chrome has been band in some states as in mine. However, I called 2 chrome plating companies here in CT. They can strip the chrome (and copper, nickel layers) for $100 per wheel. Maybe a different chemical used or they go about it like they were stripping and chrome but just halt the process.
