Seat lowering...

Only found 1 thread when I searched...

I'm only 5'9 but I feel like I sit up quite high and I have the seat pushed all the way down.

My buddy jumping in the driver seat and he is taller than I. First thing he said is I wouldn't fit at the track with my helmet.

I saw a lowering kit but seemed like the seat wouldn't move forward and back anymore. Any options? I like to sit as low as possible typically.

5'9" you should have no issue being comfortable. I am 6'2" and sit in the car without issue. Play around with the adjustments

It just feel like u sit high. In my Porsche and Vette you could really get the seat on the floor.

Plus with the way the roof comes down seem like it would be better.

I can appreciate your initial thought of "I can't move the seat fore or aft anymore". We have sold over 50 of the lowering kits and between the pedal adjustability, seat back adjustment, and height adjustment, those more than make up for the loss of fore and aft adjustment.

Interesting, I know when I 1st got into a gen5 I was so concerned about headroom, being 6'4", that I hesitated for quite a while in buying one.

I found that after playing with the seat, not only am I fine with headroom on the street, I've had no issues with a helmet & trackdays. My car has the elect seat so not sure if there's a difference, but definitely play with it.

I've used SnakeOyl seat lowering kits in my gen3 and my gen4 and they were awesome. Considering the pedal adjustment, I wouldn't fear a locked slide position, it's not all the way back. I may do a kit for my gen5 for a winter project just to enjoy the extra room ... I'm only holding off at this point as I'm trying to decide to hang onto this car forever & maybe do a Prefix Targa or jump to a '16, if I ever get home again I'll make the decision. lol Work is killing me.

i have had the lowering kit for a couple of months. It made a Huge difference to me. Well worth it!

I wonder does his 2014 still have the "bump stops" under the seat that hold it up an inch from it's lowest position? I know my 2015 didn't have them anymore.

But I still lowered my seat, as it was necessary for me. Only downside is, whatever you lose under the seat is gone forever, unless you unbolt the seat again, lol.

The SnakeOil kit was very well made, and made the difference between me buying the car and not.......

At 6'-3" I fit into my GTS fine, but I remember sitting in a Track Pack car with manual seats and it felt a bit tight---- so I would suspect so.

I know the electric seats have the stoppers on them as well, as a friend just removed them from his GTS.

The GTS seats are also a little narrower and pinch the back if your bigger than average up top, which surprised me, as I thought they were basically the same frame with a different covering. Maybe they have more padding? Actually, he's maybe average sized, and he found them a little more snug than he'd expected as well.

Can someone explain more about the electric seat "stoppers" and the removal of same. This will give you more head room?

There are these bolts on the rails attached to the floor, with white plastic tops on them. They prevent the seat from going lower. If you move your seat all the way forward, you have to get down on your knees but you can see one of them. Your best bet is to use your camera phone to "see" where they both are attached.

They can be removed without issue.

Yes, if the spacers are still there then definitely remove them. Takes like 5 mins and a little yoga positioning. No harm, later models don't have them anymore. Will give you about an inch more room.

I'm 6'4" and needed the SnakeOyl kit. It did help and was a necessity. Highly recommended. Also helps improve visibility out the front window as the headliner comes down pretty far and taller people's vision gets cut off (even if you fit).

In case you don't see the bump stops, I believe they only exist on 2013 models.

Alex is correct.

The spacers were placed in the 2013 cars. They are chrome/shiny zinc plated with a nylon tip 1" tall. Removing them helped a few folks, but most opted to get the seat kit.

This is without a doubt the single easiest, cheapest, and fastest mod that that will bring you happiness in a Gen V!

Just more info to the pile.

Installed mine this morning. I stared at the bottom of the seat looking for the 6 bolts to remove... Yeah, make sure the seat height adjuster has the seat at the highest setting or you'll be like me and start panicking...

Made a world of difference. Exactly how it should be.
