Can someone explain this to me...

Bonjour guys,

I went for a great automn ride yesterday.
When I stopped for dinner I noticed something strange on the tires....
Take a look at the photo....hummm... How can this be possible???
On all for corner, looks like the tire is not fully on contact with the road.
No hard driving, just a nice casual ride, as far as I know, caster and camber are stock.

That tire looks like it's 3/4 of the size of the rear OEM tire. My guess is that the 1/4 that's missing would be making more contact with the ground.

Tire size is normal at 335/35/17 for a gen2. They are Michelin pilot sport.
Car does not pull on either side and drives straight at any speed.
I will go and have the alignment checked to make sure...but the funny thing is that is was the only time it happened.
Just checked today and normal dust on the whole width of the tires??
Maybe it as something to do with it....photo was taken right after a paralele park!?!?

Has car been lowered? Might have thrown camber off...would need alignment as mentioned.

So, what you are asking about in the first photo is more related to the different look of the debris on the tire? The tire itself looks like it is fully in contact with the road, to me, at the elevated angle that you took the picture at.

I notice that the difference in appearance of the debris on the tread is specifically different on the two different tread compounds on the tire. Michelin PS2 has two different compounds; and I suspect, depending on how you drove it, and what temperature the tire got to, and what was on the road, you ended up with that dirt pattern due to the different stickiness of the two compounds.

Exactly, how come no debris on the outside of the tires?? The car was driven for 2 hres in around 65 degree temperature on a sunny day.
Like mentionned before, it was on all for tires. Now the car is in my garage and debris is all even on the tires??
But I like the different compound theory. Sounds very plausable to me

This was my first thought. My Michelin PSS did this after getting them nice and warm and then driving up my gravel driveway. The outside shoulder would have little to no dust on it sometimes.

Likely driven on a road with well worn rutting, soft asphalt on a wear pattern from 18 wheelers. Driven on one side of rut. Happens on certain roads here in Colorado on our Cayennes. Wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yep, that paralele parking does it every time. If you paralele park 3-4 times/week then you should carry one of these in your trunk just in case...

Whoa whoa whoa there Stephen Hawking! Do you mind explaining that math for those of us that aren't human calculators? So what you're saying, is of less than half is there, then a third would have to be somewhere else, or something like that? I'm totally lost here.

Ok, I'm done being a wise-ass ( for the moment ). actually I think it's a need for an alignment combined with a bit of an optical illusion.
