Morning gents,
Currently going through the 1 of 1 program. Awesome experience! Kate @ SRT deserves a raise.
Here's the deal:
I sent the paint code I want to use for my car. It's a PPG paint code.
Prefix sent me the two plastic cards and car form which were much too dark and way too much metallic.
No problem.
I went to local PPG paint supplier and had a card sprayed and a tester bottle mixed. This color was correct.
I sent the recipe and more info I got from PPG to Prefix and waited for round 2 to arrive.
Round 2 shows up.
This is where it gets a little confusing.
This time I was sent a plastic card that had a sticky note on it saying something like "this is the color we mixed from the PPG paint sprayed by Prefix"
2 plastic paint cards and the car form were included which were clearly the wrong color again... Not the same color as I have sent and not the color prefix sprayed themselves based off of the PPG color.
I emailed SRT back saying "the little plastic card is correct, the rest isn't"
I was told that Prefix can not match the color exactly as PPG paint and Azko-Nobel paints are different manufactures so it won't be exact.
Call me crazy but isn't a color... A color? What happens if a car with this color comes into Prefix? They wouldn't be able to paint match to it? Very strange.
Anyways my final resort is to take the correct color (sprayed by Prefix with PPG paint) and have it "chromatically matched" at a local paint store to a akzo-Nobel color and then send that information to Prefix.
I don't want a "close enough" color. I'm not dealing with some crazy odd ball candy metallic pearl tri-coat... It's just a color!
Any one have a better idea? Any way I could get the correct color translated into something that Prefix can match and spray?
I've used up 2 out of 3 of my car form color confirmations. This is my last shot.
