    New Viper owner

Just thought I would introduce myself. I brought home my first Viper last night. It is a Sapphire Blue 2001 GTS Coupe. No stripes. 16,000 original miles. The car is in like new condition. I am thrilled with the car. I am a long time Corvette guy and currently own a 61, 65, 68 Big Block and a Sixth Generation Z06. I have always loved the looks of the Viper. It is a great handling and accelerating car. These cars look as good as anything on the road. Looking forward to learning as much as I can here and am happy to be a new member of the Viper Community. Don't beat me up too badly for being a Corvette guy

Congrats! Nothing wrong with being a Vette guy, I was one too and sold my C6 and bought the Viper. Two different cars, both are a lot of fun.

Congrats and great choice of cars. I think the GenII GTS is the prettiest Viper of them all. I've owned two Vettes and you'll find that a lot of Viper owners either own or have owned Vettes. Welcome to the VOA, you'll love this club.

I see you still have your C6 Z06... Like others have said many of us have come from the Corvette to the Vipers. I have personally owned a few Corvettes for the past 15 years. This is the first time in 15 years not having a Corvette. There are definitely times that I wish I still had a Corvette.. for example grocery shopping it is almost impossible to buy everything on your list and still have room in the Viper it's just not going to happen... set a viper makes a quick grocery stops and my wife sedan does a full grocery shopping.

oh let's also add if not really an ideal car to have and heavy traffic. Let us just say you drive the car to South Beach and drive it on Ocean Drive you will see your temperature gauge get very hot.. So the car is totally different then the Corvette and that as well. The Corvette has a much better audio system than the Viper as well...

However Those are the only thing I believe the Corvette has over the Viper. The Viper is so much more fun to drive. Even in South Beach where you will see a lot of Lamborghini's and Ferrari's the Viper get just as many stairs and photos taken out of it it is really unbelievable. you will get many more thumbs up and photos and videos taken of your car than you ever did in your Z06. When you drive down the interstate you will have people trying to get next to you and asking you questions while driving about the Viper.

The ownership experience is night and day. Sure the Corvette is still a fun car to drive and there are days I would prefer to drive that vs the Viper as I listed above.. Other than having a super awesome car having a true ownership experience with the Viper community is second to none. The Corvette Forum is much bigger and has a lot more drama we are smaller forum and in general we all stick together. we all want you to enjoy this Viper and know that if there's anything we can do we will always do our best to give the best advice. Welcome and remember this thread is useless without photos......

Thanks to all for your welcome and thoughts. The wife and I are packing to go to New England's largest cruise night this afternoon at Foxboro Stadium. You are right about no space for storage. We managed to squeeze two foldable chairs in the back. The car is alot of fun to drive and gets way more attention than the Z06, but not as much as my red 61. I am used to the cell phone photos as you drive along. I had the Viper for less that 10 minutes and people were taking pics of it.

The only changes from stock are the Roe smooth tubes/K&N filters and an aluminum Fidanza flywheeel. The guy drove it about 1,000 miles a year and changed all the fluids annually. The only thing I dislike about the car is the exhaust note (UPS truck). Can you change just the muffler to get an American muscle car sound or do I need a cat-back?

    Welcome.

Corsa 3" cat back and HF cats. No drone.

If your tires are original - get new ones!

Otherwise, get the billet steering pump bracket and pulley...enjoy the coming winter

Yes I did chime in on a post over there. The usual anti Viper talk was going on but a few guys that own both also posted.

Thanks. My wife and I took the Viper to the cruise night last night at Foxboro Stadium. There were about 1,000 cars and mine was the only Viper. It got alot of attention, alot more than my Z06 got the week before!!! All of my Corvette buddies loved the car even though they kiddingly called me a traitor. Really enjoyed the 120 mile round trip. Hard to keep this car out of triple digits on the highway.

You will always get more attention in the Viper vs any Corvette... The Viper is rare and Corvette is a very common.. The Corvette owners love to think their cars is semi rare but in all reality there's about 38000 of the made every year. God created Vipers so Corvettes can have a hero.. However I still miss my Corvette.. but I sure don't miss that Corvette Forum...

NO question the Viper gets alot more attention than any of the newer Corvettes. My red 61 gets way more attention than the Viper but it certainly doesn't drive or handle like it. I have made alot of good friends over on the Corvette Forum. I guess it's the same with any Forum. Most of the people are great and there's always a few that are a PITA. I just don't let it bother me.

Thank You Scott. That sounds great. I had sent a PM to a couple of members including Martin2000GTS. Never got a response.
