Just got into a 2015 GT

Hey all. Finally decided to register here. I, with hesitation, traded in my 2000 GTS ACR for a black 2015 GT with the black side winder wheels and 18 speaker Harmon Kardon package. My ACR needed AC replacement, the crank pulley was pinned by a memeber of the other site i used to frequent, i had paint chipping on the side sills and about 30k on the clock. It just kept having problems, my wife did not like the ride of it, had it for 6 years and decided to trade up. In a year or so our income doubles so i can easily get back a gen 2 if we desire so time will tell.

I was a bit let down to find that there were no current incentives going on. My dealer where we got our black 2014 Altitude said their last two vipers sold at MSRP. They actually were letting me walk on it as they said they had a fair amount of interest in that combo. With the issues of my ACR and pretty much my ideal car in front of me, i could only negotiate increased trade in. It looks like many dont pay MSRP on the GTC. Oh well, it is still one heck of a machine even at that price and i didnt have to sit months on the ACR for private sale to get a few thousand extra.

I am using my handle from the previous forum that went to crap, and kind of left the Viper Community as that left a bad taste in my mouth as i started in 2004 and was a paying member for awhile. Hopefully this will be my new home

    Anyways brief impressions(phone typing here)
    1. Its beautiful. In ways the gen V does look better than the Gen 2. The hood and sweeping lines of the gen 2 are more congruent on the Gen 2. The Gen V just is a bit more menacing, modern and if I'd have to choose an aesthetic I would say it's a Tie. Best to have both.

    2. Comfort, I am a tad let down after look I no at pictures and reading of the materials. I typically leave my arm out of the window and find my arm sits too high. The seats are a bit hard and less comfortable than in my previous ACR. I didn't buy this for comfort though so it's ok.

    3. Interior. Fantastic. Visibility sucks and have a huge blind spot on the passenger side. Screens are great but remind me of being in my Grand Cherokee. However the stitching, the technology and overall interior quality is easily an 8/10 by any standard and a 12/10 for viper standards

    4. Drive. Much more comfortable than my stiff gen 2 ACR and I love the dual suspension modes. This car was made with safety in mind though because I just can't feel the power! I'm reading it comes alive in the later RPM range so I will see. The clutch takes awhile to engage. I have stalled twice so I really need to learn the clutch. The shift throws are short and super precise. Love it.

    5. The black paint seems to get swirls easily. I left the dealership with them and they said they will clean the paint. I do hope the paint is "hard" like my gen 2 was but have my doubts. The engine bay is absolutely beautiful and really a sight to behold.

To be continued. Back to work. I'll get pics later. Can mods fix my pictures they ate upside down!

Get a pro to fix the swirls, I'd consider a ceramic coating with black. A dealer will only mess it up more.

You can get well off MSRP on GT's, but then again with a trade in they'll make their money up somewhere. I wouldn't worry about it if you were happy with the figure.

    Congrats.

Do not let the dealership attempt to "fix" the swirls in the paint. Find a reputable detailer and have them do it and the dealership pay for it. That's what I did.

I've got a GT as well. Easy to set the mirrors up to eliminate blind spots. That shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks and noted about the dealership not touching the paint. Yeah theYeah increased my trade in value 2K but didn't touch MSRP. I'm sure they figured they could make more manipulating their figure that way. I just think 2K is a weak adjustment but over the life of the car a grand or two is nothing to lose sleep over

The speakers are outstanding; great bass levels and treble. My wife and I really like music and are very happy with the sound. It's not the best sound system in the world but for a stock setup; it's very nice.

Mirrors can't cover cars coming from 3/4 quarter passenger rear side when merging on to a highway or road. I need to jerk my whole body forward to get a glimpse of any objects approaching...

As far as seats go, the car is uncomfortable but for me got a bit better by rolling up a blanket and sticking it where the cushions meet. The heavy-ish clutch was pushing my back into an edge on the lower seat cushion. The rolled up blanket works till I find a matching cushion in alcantara.

I wish I had leather btw. I keep a plastic on my seat just to aid with getting in and out and preserving the seat upholstery.

Congrats! It's hard to believe the dealer wouldn't negotiate. Especially since there are a lot of black GEN V's available. A couple of dealers I've talked to both said they would order me a new one at invoice.

There's no reason to shoulder check in this car, or to try and look through the B-pillar. If you set your mirrors up right and keep your eyes moving there is no blind spot.

It's nice to see a lot of familiar names on this site. Timber, i believe you are in n Michigan as am I. I spoke with the sales manager regarding the price and it w as disappointing since we bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude a year ago and may want a hellcat next year. They agreed to get me where I'd like to go next round and it's my fault I didn't do enough research.

The car at invoice or MSRP isn't really an issue over a long period of ownership. It's an amazing vehicle for the value. I'm getting more impressed daily and must say the black on the with black side winder wheels is a menacing looking machine. I'm getting very used to the interior and am really putting some miles on her right now. Pulled next to a parked z06 and am very glad I stuck with the Viper. I can post pics from phone but they are upside down. Maybe a mod can correct it?

I am not sure there is anything worse for paint on a car, especially black paint, the a dealership. They punish the paint of all their cars. They generally have somebody "wash" it whch entails spraying it with water and rubbing it really hard with a rag. It hurts me just thinking about it.

Get a good detail done, then if you don't want to do ceramic coating you can do just fine with old school methods of preserving paint. Watch Junkman's videos and you can learn a a lot. I have bit dealt with the ceramics personally but people seem to like them. I just know that you can keep your paint nice with old school methods. Some people say the ceramics take a bit of the sizzle off the shine a bit. Not bad, but a little. I guess that's the price you pay for protection.

Congratulations on the new car. Enjoy it. They certainly are awesome machines.

Seriously. I feel like most owners just don't know how to set their mirrors.

The Gen5 has a very very minimal blind spot compared to what most describe.

The way our mirrors adjust don't help this situation. I have mine adjusted full outward and they're hitting the stops. I'd like them slightly more outward but they're already at the limit. I have good visibility to the read sides but full rear via the center mirror is terrible. My 15% tint combined with the aero spoiler makes it almost impossible to see anything directly behind me.
