Arrow Which transmission fluid for a GEN 3?

Can someone clue me in on which transmission fluid to order for my coupe?

I have searched far and wide on the various boards and the recommendations are a mixed bag (ie. all over the place). I hear everything from dexron 3, 4, 5, 6, to certain ATF fluids, to Redline gear oil, to royal purple, synchromax, etc. For every recommendation of one product, there are 3 people screaming that it sucks.

What are you guys running, and would recommend for a mostly street driven application? Car is on the stock t-56, btw.

Street Car use: NOTHING wrong at all with OEM oils from local Dodge dealer! And virtually every Chrysler dealer has em on the shelf. Remember, Chrysler does not refine oils..they just re-badge the products of others.

I could disount em $5/qt and charge you $20 to ship 4,......... so just buy locally?

The tag on the side of my T56 calls for Castrol Syntorq, that's all I've ever put in them. GM has the same fluid at the dealership for less than the Dodge dealership charges but the last fluid change I found it at the local Autozone on the shelf.

Use the OEM fluid from the dealer.

I run the Mopar synthetic gear lube that the label on side of trans calls for.

Mopar Gear Oil [75-85 Synthetic] if the transmission feels good and shifts well. If you have a sticky transmission, run ATF+4 in it for a few thousand miles- some even opt to run it from then on. Shifts a lot better, but will give you a little bit more Neutral Gear Rattle.

My "SRT" dealer, Tomko, refused to order the proper fill for my trans. unless I ordered a full case. It would just "sit on their shelf" is the parts managers exact words. I asked if he could do a store transfer, I was told no. I then asked if I bought a new SRT or brought my Viper in for service what would you fill the trans. with? His response....wait for it... " we haven't done one so I don't know"! Sweet, went a block over to Chevy dealer and they ordered exactly what I needed and they offered to drop it off at my house the next day. Wonder where I'm going to go when I replace my diesel Excursion with a 3500 diesel truck?

If you check the Tremec site and download the service manual for the T56(same one in my Viper truck) they recommend synthetic ATF, Dodge used the Syntorq to keep the transmission quiet, when I searched for this info RedLine D4 was the recommended performance fluid. I flushed the gear lube with Mobile1 ATF for a few hundred miles then switched. Shifts easier but yes it is noisier.

That's what I used to do. My local dodge dealership wanted $20 a quart, Pontiac dealership had it for $7 a quart.

    That is way dumb.
Dealership flying the SRT flag for selling the cars, but not the fluids for service?
.....The Challengers with the 6 speed,.....don't they also use the T56? or are they TR6060 with ATF+4 ?

I know its crazy, that was the 2nd time they have told me no go on something Viper related I needed. It's hard to support and believe in a car when the local certified dealer can't service the vehicle.

    Guys,
On my Gen IV 09 which has a TR 6060, the owner's manual states that I should run MOPAR ATF+4 in it. Is this what the other Gen IV owners run?

    Slowhatch,
Didn't mean to Hijack your thread, just trying to get snake smart ASAP.
    Thanks,
    MI V.
