    Got my new OEM hood

Thought I would pass this along to anyone else that has room to store one and might consider it a great investment. That's my strategy at least.

Refernce a post by Ryan @ Scharf's recently:

    http://www.viperalley.com/forum/3482026-post81.html

Ryan from Scharf's here the price on a used was/is $5000, we bought several used 3 years ago to resell. OEM hood at the time were MSRP $14,000 and may have been on back order with unknown future production (2012) fast foward to 2014, dodge made 120 gen2 hoods that were showing instock in Milwaukee, Price fell to $3500, now we have hoods used that cost us more than a new one, so we are sitting on them. currently with Hood Prices new at $3500 we can not compete, your better off buying at your local dealer, and if it shows up broken, make them bring you another. We shipped/ship Hoods all over the country, but costing us $1200 to ship a Hood to CA or FL, that you can get $3500 out the door at the dealer just makes it non-competitive.

A few interesting things. One, there were 67 hoods in stock a year or so ago when I first inquired about a price. On 7/17/15 when I ordered mine there were 27 left. They are selling.

Also interesting is per Ryan's note above they made a bunch more recently. All the indications on mine say it was made in 2002. Not 2014.

So my gamble is, when they sell out of new ones the used ones will go back up to $5K. And since IMO Dodge won't make these again (car is now out of production for 10+ years), the one I just paid $3600 w/ tax, will jump back up to $10K.

    Nicely crated at the dealer.

Told a friend there was beer at Dave's so free delivery.

Well packed and INCLUDES vents and inlet duct.

Everything from the stickers on the box to the sticker on the hood itself were 2002.

I got room Bob. Plenty. Stored inside the garage. Ship 2 here, one of them yours, the other a gift to your kind hood host. Deal??? Hell, I can store more than 2 if you really want me to.

Also may be worth checking the status of hood hinges as those are an integral part of the package. A bent hood hinge is near impossible to fix and also makes alignment impossible.

I'm going with "buy a hood and it triples in value in 1 year."

I seems to remember that when I looked into it a couple if years ago, there was 2 different parts # for a gen2 hood and one was about $3500 and the other one $14K

I thought about doing the same thing, but was too cheap to spend the $3600. I did buy the reasonably priced drivers side leather upper seat back since a lot of the seats wear and crack over time.

The 3500 was probably the hinges. Iirc that is about what they run/ran for. Haven't checked in a while. Obviously the hinges are pretty complex because the action of the hood is so odd compared to a standard style hood.

So by investment, this means screwing over a fellow Viper owner for you to make a profit instead of helping them?

It appears so; however, there are many others on this forum who won't do that to an owner in need.

It also could mean he is saving it for a possible need in the future and having a spare would be an investment considering what they are going to cost. If mine got totaled for some reason I would take the money and go gem 5 probably...

Yes. That is the I'm a douchebag analogy of all this.

Alternatively, I gave you fair warning with plenty of inventory in stock, so your failure to make note of that and buy your own leaves you in the loser category.

    Congrats on being a loser.

While on the subject of douchebags, I have helped more people out with hard to find and/or discounted parts than most on the forums over the past decade. Often for free. Not even shipping cost.

But you, for being a douche, will never receive that favor from me.

Let's reread the thread and notice that no one said the word "douchebag" until you did, dave. In fact, you are the one who suggested that you might indeed, be a douchebag. No one else did.

Then, you casually toss around the term "loser" a few times. Even congratulating someone on being one.

No one called you anything like that. Perhaps you could hold off from telling people you don't know that they are "Losers." That's not the kind of club we like to be. Take it to the alley where you can throw around terms like that. We don't care for needlessly rude behavior like that here.

And you don't need to do any favors for anyone that you don't want to. But you can just refrain from doing the favors, as opposed to making it out like there are so many people just thanking the heavens above that they are eligible for your favors while you run out of words in your vocabulary to call those who no longer qualify for them.

I don't know about you, Jeff, but I feel so blessed to have Dave as my personal advisor.

I would feel lost without his guidance and tutelage.

Given your rep on the forums, I'm pretty sure there are many in the community that would never want your "help" and would never want to help you.
