    Ring time

Guys I have a question, has Dodge with any Gen V run a recorded lap at the Ring or are they waiting to do it with the new ACR?

Nothing yet and with the new mph restrictions I'm not sure if it will happen.

I did not know they implemented mph restrictions, is that due to the GTR accident?

Unfortunately, the Ring times don't hold a lot of merit for me anymore. You have modified race car-like Lamborghini Aventador's running times and getting credit for being stock. Same thing with the Nismo with it's one off race car parts that are passed off as a production offering. At this point, we should just enter the GT3-R and call it a production car lap record. With that said, I still wouldn't mind seeing an ACR Extreme kick the 918's ass.

The Aventador LP750-4 SV is a car that can be bought and is an upgraded Aventador much like the ACR is an upgraded Viper. Additionally, the NISMO N-Attack package can be purchased through Stillen when you get a NISMO GTR. I say as long as the cars can be sold to the public and driven on the street it is good enough.

This was a development car, and there is no verification as to the details of it. I don't doubt it's one fast car...but here are some facts about this test:

    1) It has a roll cage (can't be bought this way)
    2) Fire extinguisher
    3) Missing passenger seat
    4) This was some sort of Pirelli testing day, god knows what kind of compound was actually used on this recording. (No verification)
    5) No third party verification that I am aware of
    6) Rumors of a "press kit" tune with 800+HP
    7) Non stock drivers seat

This is just what's visible from the video, god only knows how many other modifications or test parts this car has on it.

If these facts don't scream development/prototype car, I don't know what does. This time is proudly posted on any site that will display it as an amazing production car time, which it is, if the production car part were true.

This is basically the equivalent of an ACR-X on a testing day, with probably 3 or 4 sets of different tires and compounds to play with(slicks?). They happened to crack off an amazing time and posted it.

All cars have to have a cage in order to attempt lap records. If you watch the ZR1 video, the factory driver had an upgraded seat and roll cage. Old news really,

This is simply not true. First, to attempt lap records, what does this mean? There is nothing really official about 'Ring records. Lol. I'm not sure which video you are referring to but the 2012 ZR1 tested had different seats (driver and passenger) and a harness bar installed. Everything else stock. Not a roll cage.
    2012 ZR1 at Nurburgring

Also, the 918 had no roll cage or bar installed. It had the Weissach package, which you can buy from the factory and comes outfitted with harnesses. At least Porsche does an official press release indicating the details of the car, and includes a third party (Sport Auto) for verification purposes. Also professional external timing equipment. (Wige Solutions)

The point is it's not about a cage, seats or any of that...the reality of 'Ring times is there are no rules. It's really a free for all. You just have to pick and choose which manufacturers you trust and which are giving you the most details, if any. In the case of Lamborghini, there is very little detail concerning the car and the run which is why I said I don't put a lot of merit into 'Ring times. Unless of course they are produced by a Viper and Dodge, who I just happen to trust. Lol.

Another interesting read concerning 'Ring times:

How can you say this when both Viper records were done with showroom stock Vipers without a rollcage? Also the Lexus LFA, Camaro, and pretty much most of the cars on the production car list did not have a rollcage either if memory serves.

Key word has always been production car. Stillen is not a manufacturer in the true sense , but an aftermarket supplier. Tires on the cars were supposedly not what will come from the factory. To Manufacturers credit , they realized they could fudge the rules, make claims , and few seemed to dispute. Credit FCA for abiding by the stated rules and there were no rollcages in the Snakes when they ran.

For a long time the Production car records at Miller, VIR, Laguna Seca , New Jersey Motorsports Park, and others were held by an ACR. Pretty sure the new ACR will blow those away, and it will be unlikely there is any current , real production beasts that will keep up with the new Snake.

Let's hope things loosen up at Nurburgring , but with all the financial troubles and safety issues , it could be a thing of the past , as many are surmising.

It would be awesome if when they do go back to the Ring they bring a couple of ACR's and a couple of TA's.
