Reminds me of the years when we (Dan Lesser, myself, John Wojnar) organized the Quaker Steak & Lube Cruise to exit 24 in Erie, PA for a Wing Feast. We'd pull club member's together from the VCA PA, Ohio, NY & Ontario for the ride. One year we left lunch & went to a Rib Festival. Another year we left lunch & cruised around Presque Isle Peninsula Park, Erie, PA beaches. Most people, even from PA, don't know about Presque Isle & how beautiful it is there. Another year we left lunch & cruised to Conneaut Lake Park on Conneaut Lake, PA. Another year we left lunch & cruised out to Pymatuning Lake, PA where the carp are so thick that the ducks walk on them. What a site? Those were the days my friends.

Even though my car's in the shop for some repairs & an engine rebuild, we may have some time this fall to pull off a ride? I would suggest Ithaca, NY close to Watkins Glen. Treman Park & Buttermilk Fall's State Park are beautiful in the Fall. The walk through the Treman gorge is a picturesque wonder. Ithaca, NY is situated on Cayuga Lake (one of the Finger Lakes) & home of Cornell University & numerous wineries.
Ithaca, NY is a 2.5 hour drive from Buffalo, NY or 3 hours for the more scenic route. I'm sure we could find a hotel out side of Ithaca to accommodate a few drivers. We'll just say for now that if there's interest, & I get my car back in time, let's talk?

Another idea is Oktoberfest Art's & Craft's Festival @ Letchworth State Park outside of Geneseo, NY on October 10-12. Considered the Grand Canyon of the east, it's well worth the time. It's a huge vendor affair with well over 300 booths (all outside). I try to go every year. If the weather's good I may be able to organize a private yacht cruise, around the Buffalo Harbor, that evening?

I'm from PA so I've cruised the Allegheny Mtns. south of Pittsburgh & the Allegheny National Forest south of Jamestown, NY. I've been out through the Catskill Mtns. in downstate NY dozens of times. One of the best times I ever had in any mountains was in October when the Elk mate at Benezette, PA. Have you ever walked within 50' of a wild Elk? Benezette, PA is due south of Buffalo, NY just north of Interstate 80 in PA. Imagine Elk, as big as a moose, making the male mating sounds (sounds like a loud trumpet). Stop for lunch and eat an Elk Burger then cruise through the Sproul & Elk State Forest's to the Wildlife Museum. Along the route stop at the railroad bridge that got wiped out by a tornado then along to a couple of operating natural gas wells while watching out for Black Bear. It's a good time. Most people don't even know it's there. The roads around Benezette, PA are narrow, crowded & everyone wants to stop right now to see an Elk. Be prepared to sit in the car & wait. To me it's worth it.

See what you started Jay? lol
Pat and Jason... we seriously need to do this!

John Wojnar used to live 10 minutes from be before he moved... but still now he's in NY so I think we can still get him to join us for some fun, lol
I'm familiar with both Conneaut and Pymatuning ... somewhere I have pics of the ducks walking on the backs of the carp, lol
Never heard of Presque Isle but sounds intriguing the way you described it. All great ideas Pat.

I was told by the desk today is actually the last day to get the group rate on the hotel room if you're planning to come. ;-)
    Always a great time.
    Mike
