Before I begin, I will preface my comments with the acknowledgement that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and is therefore a very subjective assessment.
I just received the September edition of Road and Track with its "10 Most Beautiful Car, Starring The New Ford GT". Yeah, ok, I get it. The new Ford GT (which isn't even on the road yet as far as I know, and isn't as good looking as the original or the 2005 version IMHO) is the new car our automotive journalists have latched onto, just like they latched onto the C7 Corvette.
Some of the cars in the top 10 I get. I don't think they are more beautiful than the Viper, but I can see how someone would find them beautiful. For example, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the BMW i8, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, the Porsche 918 Spyder.
But here is my problem. They have listed the Cadilac CTS-V Wagon, the Range Rover Evoque, and the Audi TT as being in this category. Not to mention two race cars, the Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans Prototype and the Ferrari P4/5 Competizione.
How can R & T have passed over the Gen V Viper and yet included these cars in its list? Why does it appear as though automotive journalism has turned its back on the Viper so badly? I get the fact that the C7 didn't make the cut. The rear end of that car is hideous IMHO. But the Viper, now here is a car that I look at from every angle possible and just shake my head at how incredibly beautiful it is. For goodness sake, the Viper got beat by a freakin' wagon and an SUV!!!!
Can someone please explain to me what the heck is going on here???? It just seems so wrong to me that, despite the fact that R&T is an American publication, it chose one American car, the Ford GT, which isn't even on the road yet, and passed right over the Viper and other cars built in the good 'ol U.S. of A. which, come on, are better looking than a wagon and an SUV. I just think its getting a little ridiculous how blatant U.S. automotive journalism's dismissal of the Viper has become.
