Here's two laps from session four at COTA. My fastest laps of the day were in the 2:39's (thanks Nineball for the lap timer). Felt great overall about my line by the end of the day but watching some of my videos I should have come into the long front and back straights in 2nd gear instead of 3rd.

I was laughing about that as well. I got stuck behind that BMW and mentally it was time to take a little break HAHA It felt like we were cruising the streets while that thing was sliding off track trying to stay out front.Quote:

That worked...looking good! I've sure never been on a track that wide before. I know they like to do everything big in Texas, but you could race 18 wheelers around there! Up here we practically have to dodge trees and watch for deer crossing at 150 mph.
HAHA yeah one of our other local Houston tracks MSR is not nearly as wide. It was really fun refining the line at COTA with it being that wide you can really do some interesting things as far as your line is concerned.Quote:

Yup, we have a looooong way to go. But, practice is fun!
For sure I watched Mike Skeen run a 2:23 in a stock ACR around COTA so I would think anything in the 2:20's for an average joe would be outstanding. Also even just watching my laps I can quickly find time left on the table entering the straights in 3rd instead of 2nd.
I also know for a fact I never saw a lap with out some form of traffic. Next time I'm hoping to be in a slightly quicker group.
There is a problem with COTA getting clean laps, while its a big track 3.4 miles it cost a ton $65,000 a day to rent so they really try to fill up the run groups generally to the tune of 35 cars. Oh well that keeps it from being boring.

What a huge difference between a track rat and a pro...Variables not withstanding, 16 secs gap is ridiculous given the same car but different drivers. Were both cars on the same rubber?

You are comparing a lap time from someone in the beginner "blue" run group who is carrying an instructor, running the track for the first timem while waiting for point bye's to a pro who has most likely already run competitive events on this circuit by himself on a completely clean lap. The fact that people were running in the 2:30's in their first ever time on this track I thought was pretty good. And the well driven Vipers were flying by just about everyone.
