SRT vs GTS vs. TA Suspensions

This question goes out to those of you who have had the opportunity to drive all three versions of the GenV suspensions. I've searched and searched and can't get a definitive answer.

How different is the ride between a GTS on the softest setting, a standard SRT suspension and a TA in the softest setting over bad pavement?


Specifically, I'm looking into the possibility of a GenV as a daily but am worried of the suspension being too stiff over broken pavement, railroad tracks, etc.

I like engine noise, I like road noise, but I do not like a car that feels so nervous that it seems like its going to switch lanes on its own...

The TA in street mode is tame. Nothing like my ACR, even to the point my wife mentioned how smooth it is.

I put 61,000 on a daily driver 1995 RT10. Man up!

The softest setting on the GTS is noticeably smoother then a TA, but the TA is very livable on the soft setting.

I'm not sure what SRT changed, but my Gen 5 doesn't track/follow road grooves like my Gen 3 does. Makes it much easier to drive in a relaxed state. My Gen 5 SRT coupe rides smoother than my Gen 3, both have stock shocks.

I've driven both an SRT and a GTS not a TA. The GTS is my daily driver. GTS rides better than the SRT for normal driving on the street setting. Not as smooth as some other street only cars but more than fine for a daily driver. Definitely rides better than my Gen 3s.

The rear toe link relocation has helped with the nervous rear end and the control arm locations were slightly changed to help also.

i get it every once in awhile pretty bad, but that is on roads even my bmw does (just not as bad) but i agree, you can easily 1 hand drive this thing

I haven't driven the TA or SRT, I only have first-hand experience with the GTS. Even the GTS is no cream puff, it's firm and connected to the road. Not as isolated or soft as an AMG or Corvette, the Viper feels a bit like a race car even when driven on the street. The combo of that with the music of the V10 exhaust is just intoxicating. It's seen long trips with my lady to wine country and with my daughter to Santa Barbara. Not once have I felt that it is too firm, no regrets!

I view the GTS as the true GT touring car, equally at home on the race track and the road. The TA is for those more track focused, although the SRT and GTS are very close to the TA's performance on the track. D'Ann and Wayne (who own 60 or 70 Vipers) said that the road noise and stiffness of the SRT are noticeably more than the GTS.

Part of the issue on a Gen III was the Run Flat. Typical issue with that type of tire , regardless of vehicle, the stiffness required made the large tires have a tendency to wander more in ruts , etc.
Not going to go into them being lousy, as frankly they had some attributes that were better than some other tires, but the ride and stiffness contributed to complaints with GM and Chrysler and the
corresponding products that were using said rubber donuts.

Bill, I got rid of those run-flats in 2006 when I bought the car. I've had 3 different brands of tires on the car since, and all of them follow uneven roads more than a normal car. The Gen 5 does not. More relaxing to daily drive the Gen 5 for sure.

I heard somewhere that there were some changes to alignment specs on the Gen 5. Maybe that is why it does not wander as much. I've realigned my 09 ACR to -2 camber up front, -1 camber in rear, and zero toe. It doesn't wander either.

I am so glad I bought a TA, damn nice driving car!

Thank you everyone for the replies. Based on the pricing I'm seeing online, it's looking like a 2013 GTS or a 2014 TA since the consensus seems to be that the adjustable suspension is a plus.

What he said. I drove my Gen 3 daily for the first few years. The Gen 5 is incredibly easy to drive compared to previous generations.

You can get a great deal on a 14 GTS too.

My gts is plenty of stiff for me...in fact I was hoping to be more comfy. IMO the suspension modes doesn't seems to make a bid difference... Gimmicks?

Can't imagine how a TA would ride...

I think the different settings are fairly noticable.

On our last trip to the coast, I randomly switched our 13 GTS's "ESC" mode from street and track mode, and the street and race setting on the shocks, in the street mode and street shock setting the car was very smooth. when I would switched to the track mode and race shock setting, you could feel the suspension stiffen up, and you could feel most every bump in the road. Every time I did this (and she had no clue what I was doing) my wife commented on how much more bouncy and bumpy the road was. After the six or seventh time, I finally explained to her what I was doing. LOL, she is definitely no gear head, but she could feel the difference by the set of her pants.

I'd love to find a yellow '14 GTS under $110. No luck yet. At least locally. A couple of k under invoice is best so far - and not very impressed by the sales or service departments. Starting to wonder what the service experience would be like in case of a CEL or something computer related.
