I see this topic discussed to death but still don't see a concrete answer. Is there any reason to get the Mopar Fill which is Castro Syntorq versus a ATF +4 besides wanting to pay 4 times more per quart? Or any other recommended fluid? Picking up an 03 with 5k miles on it and want to put in fresh fluid

ATF+4 is much thinner than the Syntorq...I think either are acceptable, but the primary reason they went with Syntorq in the '03 T-56 transmission was to help quiet the neutral gear noise/rattle. The 2008-2010 TR-6060 calls for ATF+4 (I used Motul ATF my last go-around).

I believe the correct fill for the '03 is the MOPAR 75w 85. Four quarts. Give amazon a try and see if you can get it cheap there. I got my DOT 4 there at a good price.

Even on amazon its $25 per quart, just seeing if there is a reason to pay that when I can get redline for $17 or Castrol ATF+4 for $8

ATF+4 is not correct for Gen 3. The Redline MT-85 is 75W85 GL-4 which is the same as the Syntorq factory fill. The only place to get Mopar or Castrol Syntorq other than a dealership, is a 4-wheel drive shop and it is still $25+ per quart

I am in the same boat. I find a ton of threads but no definitive answers.

I've read that people go with the ATF+4 in the gen 3 T56 for smoother shifts at the sacrifice of some noise. If that is the case I would gladly give it a try.

I switched to Redline ATF in my T56 for the last 3 years and noticed no improvement in shifting at all. I used to curse my T56 'till I replaced it with a TR6060, which fixed all my issues:)

Ive replaced just about every viper ive owned with Royal Purple Syncromax and have had great luck with little smoother shifts and a little quieter neutral rattle

cool, how many quarts does the transmission hold? 4?

It'll hold just under 4 before running out the fill hole. from my experience but you could always tilt the car toward the passenger side and get a few extra ounces in her.

Be sure that it is GL-4 and not GL-5.
