View Full Version : Losing sucks!!!!

So it really sucks losing! I love my Gen V but miss my Paxton s/c Gen 3 because it was much quicker!!!

I just raced a C5 Vette that beat me on 3 runs. Vette owner claims to only have intake, exhaust, tires and tune and 700 hp....not sure at fly or tires...:sounds high for only those mods or like bs to me.

They were damn good runs, with first 2 runs being from a 40 mph roll (which sucks for Gen V 3.55 gears because you have to shift to 2nd shortly thereafter but a speed that starting in 2nd gear doesn't provide most efficiency of power.

We ran to 120mph or so and I was a half a car length behind each time, shifting good with traction on. Then we tried from a dig and same sh!t.

He did say he has N2O but was not using. I have original factory tires and mods in signature below. I feel that Vipers are supposed to win by virtue of uniqueness and design when put against a cookie cutter Vette (especially an older model) and am very disappointed!!!!

I welcome feedback and thoughts...

I'm not getting it.
We know a Gen V will take a C7 Z06 from a roll as Nineball has shown, but you're racing a modded car.
Stock versus unknown HP and mods. Apples and oranges no?

Ummm it takes a LOT more than intake, exhaust, and tune to get any C5 to 700 ho. Unless by intake he means turbos.

If you ever come across a gutted civic with a roll cage and huge front tires, dont race him either because you might be dissapointed. All forms of racing have regulations to match cars. I dont understand how you can be dissapointed by racing a car with equal-ish power that has drag radials? These vehicles are analog, there is no "uniqueness" to their power, especially while drag racing, its just motor, driver, tranny, tires, road....the uniqueness is that its a Viper with a V10, has looks to kill, and is limited production.

A buddy of mine has a 730hp (crank) ZL1 and couldn't pull away from me 50-160mph rolls.

Dunno why you couldn't beat an old vette

Stage II cam and heads maybe?

Agreed. Expect YouTube vids of a junky C5 dragging a new Viper around. 700hp is 355 hp more than a stock C5 makes. You got hustled.

I agree , I had a few C5's my 01 Z had long tubes, ported intake, bigger injectors, ported head, big cam cold air, custome tune etc, and it put out 500 plus hp.
The bottom end was kept stock I had a 150 shot on it, but after using it twice the car send a rod right through the block, those cars had cheap internals like most vettes except the ZR1 and new Z06 which are forged.
To get a reliable 700 hp out of a C5 you have to rebuild the whole motor, not to mention trans, and clutch.

You would walk a heads and cam, bolt-on C5, with just an intake and tune, of the guy was spraying and you are a seasoned racer you would know right away, I can smell it coming out of the exhaust .

The guy probably had a superchagern with a fully built bottom end, or turbo , because there is know way he could have 700 hp with the mods he told you, not even close, get a PCM, American race headers, cat back , pulley and the result will be different, if he only beat you by a car and a half, then you will take him out easy.

The C5 is a great car to mod because of weight , my only weighed 2920 while others on the same day weighed in the 3100 range , it was still my favorite vette to this day, the top set it apart right away from the other vettes.

I was thinking the same thing...maybe crank HP.

Also folks tend to BS about their power in efforts to dig a jab in their competitor when they win, or avoid ridicule when they lose to a lower HP car. I had a Cobra buddy who used to say all he had for mods was an intake and a tune when he raced and he had TONS more than that done.

However, if he was making 700 rwhp, then yeah he is likely going to beat you as your vehicles weigh would be about the same and he would have a good power margin on you.

having owned a few vettes. He was spraying. Your car with Arrow PCm and Full exhaust traps on a bad day ( normal DA) 131-135. My 100% stock 02 Z06 with a 150 shot n20 trapped 128 in vegas. So you lost to a n20 Vette. My buddy has an 03 z06 with built motor , big , cam, headers tune and he traps 128 in vegas. thats with him making 560@wheels.
It takes n20 on a c5 to hit 700 crank.

Old enough to not utilize the male anatomy (i.e. testicles) as part of my profile name. You?

He said NA and I didn't hear turbos or s/c.

Why would you race with ESC on?

Factory tires...and car had been sitting for a bit.

He did state that he had N2O but wasn't spraying...not sure but I knew the he was taking advantage of more than just intake, exhaust and tune.

also the bottle pressure will drop after a few passes. I know My first hit with bottle pressure 1050 was nasty. After a few pulls it was around 900 and felt slower.

Doesn't really matter, your in a viper and he is in a vet. Should have made him put the bottle on the side of the road.
Withe headers and your pcm upgrades there is no way he could take you naturally, unless it was sounding like a pro stock car which you would notice.

+1.race is a race. Saying you have a better car after you lose means nothing. If a viper beats a Ferrari , does the owner say "doesn't matter he drives a viper and i drive a Ferrari"... lol

I never saw the point of such a competition. The winner is the one with either the bigger checkbook or cc limit, or perhaps the one who was smarter in the use of his checkbook or credit card, or perhaps has more experience or talent. What does it prove in the end?

Hahaha, yes, I bet they do......

In our track group, some of the Ferrari owners only show up to one event, get shown the tail lights by a Corvette or some other deemed by them "lesser" car, and never come back. It's hard to be smug while being humbled, the track is a very humbling place. Can't take it too seriously, there will always be a faster car or a faster driver........

In a straight line, it's even less to be concerned with, as pointed out above, a lot of times, most money wasted wins, with a little skill.

If he's only beating you by half a car, a little driving skill can get you ahead. If you see how guys like nineball and pdv25 shift their cars, they never lift off the throttle. Having used that tactic recently at a roll race event i realized i would have lost many races had i not power shifted. You lose roughly half a car on every shift. So running from 40 if you started in 1st instead of 2nd and no lifted through 4th, you would have put a car on him.

I would love to learn how to do that w/o grinding the clutch. I used to do this while racing street bikes and it just required allowing the rpm's to accelerate beyond (finding the window of release) the centrifugal clutch and would easily slide up into the next gear. Same principle and mechanics?

I think timberwolf is referencing shifting without lifting the throttle and you're talking about not lifting the clutch. Maybe I'm mistaken but that's what I understood.
