Had some fun with a couple friends who can also drive well. Both have similar C6 Z06 Corvettes, 580-600 rwhp all-motor. I knew it would be a close run, hp/weight is very similar between the three. If you are wondering how come it sounds good, I use a corded external microphone on the GoPro, with the mic inside the car near where the exhaust tips exit the side. Just clipped to the carpet there.

Just the Corsa will make the Viper sound about as loud as when you first start up the car. Corsa plus headers is VERY loud, but still perfectly fine when cruising up to 75 mph on the highway. I like the sound, didn't think I would - as I tend to prefer quiet cars that just go faster than they sound.

Throwing 5th just to keep pulling on him by more. lol. Tony I watched that part of the video like 10 times. I think the rpm's drop too much to spray in that gear?

Yeah, 5th is a big rpm drop. Spray would certainly wake that up though. I grab 5th (and 6th) in my Gen 3 all the time, just need enough power to make up for the drop.

As always, top notch video productions from Nine Ball. Love the sound of that combo, I think I'm going to throw Corsas on my next Viper.

Doesnt the aero pack hinder your acceleration?

Doesnt the aero pack hinder your acceleration?

Yes. About 1-2 mph trap speed, as we found out on a same day track rental. If I were going to build a fast straight-line Gen 5, I would start with a base model SRT w/ Track Pack, similar to what my '13 was. Lightest model, best aero for high speed.

Nice runs Tony. That wind-free mic by the exhaust sounds pretty sweet.

Do these mods put you at the same power level as PDV?

I would say my car makes a bit more power, just because I have a custom tune. The arrow tune has to be conservative to be able to work in all types of climates.

I re-dyno'ed the car again since last time when it made 632 it had STD smoothing. It reads higher like that. Now with SAE smoothing it made 623/589.

+1/ Years of practice..? Do you have the original short shifter and is there anything out there that's better? Great vids and sound.

I would agree that PDV's car makes more power. Mine only has those two mods, exhaust and the generic Arrow tune. A custom tune (done properly) should net more gains, more aggressive timing and a/f ratio. I may add the crank pulley because it is simple/cheap, but that is about it. I need to go dyno the car, as it sits.

I have the MGW shifter knob/stick. Just replaces the factory stick, uses the factory base shifter (which is very good). It doesn't make shifting quicker, I've done well with the stock knob, it just feels better to me. I don't like the goofy baseball. Article on my method here, you can see the shifter knob too:

Just read your shifting technique ! great info. So you don't power shift 1-2? i can't tell from your video?

what was the weather with 134 trap viper?

I had to watch the video again, and turn up the volume, to see the first 2-3 shift, wow.

How much quicker do you think your Viper would be with 3.73 gears ?

I rarely powershift 1-2, because the tires just spin when you do that, and sometimes it causes the tires to hop. That is actually slower than maintaining traction. On drag radials, you can powershift 1-2, however.

How much quicker do you think your Viper would be with 3.73 gears ?

3.55 vs 3.73 is a marginal change. It would help with launching at the drag strip, and work a tiny bit better for trap speed at the drag strip, since you'd finish in a higher rpm. But for roll racing, starting in 2nd gear, it would actually hurt you - since you can only go 142 mph in 4th with the 3.73, vs 150 mph with the 3.55 gears. The roll racers usually go down to 3.07 gears, so they can carry 4th out to 173 mph. All at 6500 rpm, stock tire height. Most of these half-mile and rolling events need at least 155-160 mph. You'd want to avoid using 5th, if possible. The stock 3.55 setup is actually perfect for standing half mile racing, since 4th tops out at 150 mph. Which is about what the Vipers have been running at those events.

Nice driving as always. I have always wondered if the aero pack hinder acceleration, after seeing Ralph state this, Good to know. I guess the Aero pack is good on the road course but hurts with roll racing. Good info to know..

Imagine ACR aero does to the car in a straight line.

I read the top speed is 176, talk about serious drag. I bet it will be down 4-5 mph in 1/4 with that monster wing. Not that you buy it for 1/4 lol

Exactly, but having owned an ACR in the past it's like accelerating with a parachute behind you. It's both the fastest Viper and the slowest Viper lol.

Kind of related question, I wonder if the TA alignment might hurt acceleration from a standstill?

My car was delivered with the TA alignment, and I noticed after driving some dirty roads, the outside edges of the tires don't see much contact with the road. Absolutely apparent up front.

well considering you have to burn out your clutch to get a 3.5 0-60 i would say, not really. they all bog from a standstill without riding the crap out of the clutch. I will not longer launch my viper unless its LC for shits and giggles.

Amazing runs and man does your exhaust sound beautiful! Thanks for helping me make up my mind.

I cranked up your 2nd video at work and no one would believe that your Viper was an MT, that 3-4 shift is straight from Pluto!!

Are hitting 150 in 4th with the Arrow PCM? I'm stock and can't seem to get there.

Great runs, fantastic shifting!

Short answer - yes, it most certainly can hurt straight line acceleration from a standstill.

Long answer - read this post:

Arrow PCM extends your rev limiter out another 200 rpm. 6600 vs 6400.
