Just returned from Shanghai and spotted a Yellow 2014 Viper GTS in the Showroom of AutoClub. I had read a recent post of one in Beijing and of its "High China pricing" and wanted to see how this one compared. It was not far from my hotel so when I had the chance I went and checked it out as they have unusual hours 10:30 and to 10:30pm (22:30). Aside from the Viper they had other cars including a Ferrari, Corvette, Mustang, Mercedes, Audi, etc.
Unfortunately, the salesman spoke only Chinese so I was not able to ask any questions. The info card was also in Chinese, but was told the price was the first item, 260Y. I took out my phone and went to the calculator function and ask him how many 0's followed the 260, and it was four or 2,600,000 rmb or $418, 907.38 that day in US dollars.
The only other thing that I still question was the second line that seemed to suggest the car was 700hp???...any way was nice to finally see a Viper in China. Anyone else been there recently and spotted a Viper?1152811529115301153111532

I still can't get over that price!!! How is that justified? As I said before, it's a great "bailout" plan for the U.S. debt situation with China. Send them a couple thousand Vipers and call it even. Start spooling up Conner Ave.........

How does it compare to pricing on the others there, like the GTR, vette, and mustang? Is the viper specifically & uniquely crazy high, or ...

Very interesting, thanks for postin.

This is partially due to something like 100% import taxes, but that's a bit more than 2x the US cost!

Cha-Ching! That is my car if you add all exterior carbon fiber and black Sidewinder II wheels! l love my car, but >$400k would cause me to reconsider! I could sell, pay taxes and then repurchase and still have a good chunk of change. WOW! Of course, not sure ho much tax is required to bring the car to China... .

Must be that door light thingy that shoots the price up.

Gtr is cheaper because of the less displacement. In China, for imported cars, when the displacement is more than 4L, the total tax is about 143% (yes, more than 100%). But for the displacement from 3L to 4L, the tax is 95%. Huge difference, apart from the profit of the dealership.
As for the horsepower, I believe the dealer knows nothing about the viper. They just make the number to make it sell easier. I know this because I'm from China. :-)

The only other pricing data I saw (didn't have a lot of time) was for the Vette...was $1,380,000 rmb or $222,258.70.11540

...plus...for those not familiar with China...the license plate will set you back at least another $20,000...thats after you have secured one through the government auction...and that $20,000 is for any car!

It also appears to have one-inch-larger wheels than US cars. What's up with that?

That's also a crazy price, but I know El Zilcho about the import/export business. I always figured that a place like the US was impossible to bring a foreign car in, and that other countries let you waltz through the door with no problem. Perhaps not.

Or perhaps I need to learn to speak Chinese and start rowing a boat full of Vipers across the water!

I go to China and Asia 3-4 times a year. I've yet to see a Viper but I have seen 2 WK2 SRT Jeeps and a few Ford Raptors.

Well if we are going to be technical, in China it's "Claigslist". They can't say Rs. In Japan it would be "Craigsrist".
