Hey guys,

I thought I'd change the fluid in my transmission to Royal Purple in the hopes of improving the shifting into reverse problem I have. I also picked up some gear lube for the diff to do at the same time. I know it doesn't need to be changed till 36K miles, but I figured what the heck, while I'm down there right? Unfortunately, when I got under the car, I was unable to remove the sheet metal belly pan that extends from the engine/transmission back to the diff. It is secured with many, what appears to be Allen/Hex bolts, but neither my metric or imperial keys seems to be a good fit. They were either too big or too small and provided too much play. I did give a fairly good twist on a few bolts, but they are in there very tight, and I was afraid that any more pressure would strip the bolt. Also, there are so many, that a problem with one will result in my inability to remove the pan = major pain in the ass.

Does anyone know the correct size of the hex/allen key to remove these bolts? Or am I missing something? Has anyone performed this service with some tips as well? Thanx.

Are you certain they are allen head? While I haven't looked at my Gen 5, the Gen 4's used Torq head bolts.

They are Torx bits. You can buy sockets with them at Sears or any of those cheap tool places.

uh….i have a 2014 TA with 1300 miles…. from what i read here, may be i should do a transmission and diff oil change of the 'breakin oil'….

what fluids and volume should i buy to do this ? is there a filter ? gasket ?
what's a descent transmission fluid to put back in and is there a volume or way to check level ?

on differential, i read something about adding a few oz of friction modifier or something ?

tnx guys , jRHO
