I just took delivery of a new 2014 Base SRT Viper and a 15 SRT Challenger after selling my 08 Vert (I have the best wife!). All I can say is WOW! You can't even compare the two. I was amazed how much better the ride is on the Gen V compared to the Gen IV. I know my 08 Vert flexed alot because of the Vert, but the Gen V drives amazingly. I only have 50 miles on it, so I will have to put some road miles on it before I hammer the throttle. Since the car sat for 15 months and has no miles, should I do an oil change due to the age of the original oil? Also, looking for Sidewinder II or 6 spoke Venom wheels if anyone wants to swap or has a set for sale. Thanks!

It is hard for me to believe that modern oil can lose important properties just sitting, within the 6 month maximum interval specified in the manual; but, maybe 15 months is too long, especially for a new engine. I would change it if it were mine, if not just for peace of mind after spending that kind of money on a car. However,I've always thought that the time interval was more for covering lots of short trips that don't accumulate much mileage but may contaminate the oil more than longer trips. But I have no personal expertise.

It would be nice to hear Tom, F&L GoR's take on time related oil changes, and especially when there are not a significant number of short start and run cycles.

Oil does not go bad from just sitting there - it goes bad (loses its ability to clean) from use.

That said, I'd still change it within the first 500 miles to check for any issues, and then continue to monitor the oil level after every drive until you can confirm how much (or little) oil your particular engine consumes. Some Gen 5s had oil consumption issues during the first few thousand miles...if you let it get too low, you'll be looking for a new motor (hopefully under warranty).

Thanks for your advice. The oil level is perfect from Dodge, but I am going to just change it now (which is a waste, lol) and then again at about 500 miles.

I'm still amazed with all the modern tech in 2015 there is no low oil warning system.

Congrats on BOTH cars. I did kind of the opposite of you - I traded my Gen 3 AND my 07 SRT Charger Superbee for my Gen 5. LOVE the 5, but I do miss my SRT8, which is why I'm going to add a gently preowned one back to the stable in a couple years.

Drive them both in good health, they are both great (but very different) cars.

I can't really support this but It's my understanding that any oil will change some of its characteristics when just sitting in an aluminum motor for a prolong time. I agree and would change the oil now as I did on my 2013 gts purchased 8-14. knock on whatever has not used any oil and still looks very clean at 1500 miles.

I can't imagine synthetic oil degrading in any amount of time in a dealership showroom at 70 degrees. The shelf life should be quite long!

Congrats on the new car!!!!
