Last weekend was the Georgia 1/2 mile held in Clayton, GA. On Saturday, there 3 vipers playing on the runway. A Yorange 15' SRT by one of our members here, a blue TA 2.0 that only had a couple hundred miles on it, and my white 14' SRT. All 3 cars are stock. I work for wannagofast so I only got a few runs in when things really slowed down at the end of the day. The best speed of the day was the yorange SRT with a 149.9 followed by a 149.1 pass I had earlier in the day. The 2.0 was having a hard time finding 5th gear and I don't believe he ever got over 142mph with most runs in the 130's.

On sunday, we had a ton of rain which delayed racing until noon. Once the track dried off, we had about 2.5 hours of racing before the rain came back and we had to pack everything up to keep it dry. We had two additional Gen V's out. There was a 14' Orange TA, and a red 13' SRT. The best the red car could get is mid 140's and the TA was having a hard time finding 5th as well with two back to back 130's passes. I offered to swap cars with the TA for a pass and he agreed so we got to take each others cars down the runway. I ran a 144ish in his car and he did a 146ish pass in mine. I had fun and he was glad to drive another viper to verify nothing was wrong with his (he bought it used).

I also ran my buddies calloway C6 Vette a couple times. By the numbers, his car is a lot stronger than mine, but I beat him with my 149 pass, and the best he could do all day was a 148. The altitude at this event was around 3K', with a 6K' DA.

The track got very stick by the end of Saturday, so grip wasn't an issue with my corsa tires. I was launching around 3500-4000 RPM and never letting my foot off the gas with fast shifts. Traction control fully off. The yorange car was doing the same. At that event on that weekend, I feel 149 or a magical 150 was all you were going to get out of a Gen V viper. Not bad at all for a car with a warrantee.

Here are a couple other speeds I saw out of stock cars

Auto Challenger Hellcat (17 miles on it when he got there) -- 150mph
Manual Challenger Hellcat -- 146 (he might of got a 147, but I cant remember)
Lambo Aventador -- 155
McLaren ?? -- 155

The highlights on other cars IMO are:

Tuned and bolt on Hellcat Challenger (not sure if manual or auto) -- 152
highly modified Chevy Cobalt -- 146
Supra -- 198 (very impressive for a RWD car)
Big Turbo SRT Grand Cherokee -- 162
GTR had to speed of the event -- 201

Here is a video from one of my races with the yorange car. I got him this round, but he got the better of me on the weekend.

Looks like great fun!

I want to participate in something like that.

Man, I would love to do a half mile event. A 1/4 mile strip is just a tease for a Viper, but that's all I have even remotely close to me.

I ran 154 in my TA at shift sector. Obviously different track and conditions. It definitely hurts shifting into 5th so close to the finish line.

What would it take for the Viper to trap 160 mph?

Well to get 160, I think you will need at least 700whp in a viper. I ran Georgia for a couple years in a row with my Paxton 06' viper that made right at 700whp with a best of 158mph. Hopefully next time I'm in Georgia at an event, I'll be over 800hp, so I'll let you know.

With a taller gear, not having to shift to 5th, and headers and tune you would hit 160. I hit 160 in my z06 with 553rwhp. No reason you couldn't hit 160 in the Viper with 600rwhp. That wanna go fast track seems to run slower than others.

The DA was 6000, that is15% less hp than most venues.

So just to confirm, you power shifted 5th gear?

So pissed I left after 3hours of waiting out the rain Sun. Never thought it would clear!

There's always a lot of variables on each event. Traction, DA, asphalt or concrete, grooved or smooth... It's almost impossible to compare events. There are also two main companies that make the timing systems the runway events use. Those also have to be set up perfectly or there will be variance in speeds.

As for a viper hitting 160 with 600hp, I doubt it. Not in a standing 1/2 mile anyways. Darius, not taking anything away from your personal experience, but I have sent literally thousands of cars down runways and have a fairly good idea of what it takes for certain speeds, especially in vipers as it pertains to me.

I'm going to do bolt-ons plus a 200 shot of nitrous eventually and I'm hoping for low 160's. Any car that can do 160+ consistently and reliably is a good build. There will always be someone faster.

As for my shifting, yes, I power shifter all the way through 5th with my shifts right at 6200.

This event was so much fun!!! All ready signed up for the September event. I'm hoping like Ninjakris too be in the 160's by the next event. What is interesting is that our cars are faster than A8 Corvette Z 06 stock for stock. And the stock SRT is faster then the TA's at the half mile.
