As we dive into the pre production ViperExchange/Arrow Stage II Heads & Cam install on my GT I thought some of you would like to see a play by play of what it looks like to remove a Viper Engine and Trans on a Gen V. We are still a little over a month out of moving into our brand new BJMotors/ViperExchange building on site at Tomball Dodge, and Morgan Day one of our three Viper Tech is salivating over having his new space to install our new packages. That being said here are some great shots of a Viper Tech pulling a motor and trans on a 2015.

So this was day two's progress. We needed a few fasteners that we missed so Morgan spent the day swapping out the cam, prepping the deck for the gaskets and heads and getting everything ready to go once the hardware showed up.

On the Engine stand and dropping the oil pan

Front cover off, and yes those are some sort of oily deposit on the top of the pistons. My first thought was oil being burned off via the pcv system which it could be. Since I was still under the factory break in time table, I have not really got on the car much at all so I am sure I will have an opportunity to burn everything off :D Does have me thinking about a gen V catch can though.

Stock cam coming out:

Courtney coming out to see the progress in between selling all of those new Vipers :) New cam going in. The best part about working at ViperExchange is that we all turn our own wrenches and like and enjoy working on and racing Vipers. It's hard to sit at your desk when you know all of this is going on outside :)

And prepping the other side before he finished up for the day.

I'll follow up with more tomorrow as it we start to get everything buttoned up.

Gotta pull the motor to do heads/cam? or was it just a simpler route?

BTW, I love hating a flat oil pan!

Was hoping someone might find this interesting.

In for dyno charts.

We will. I got a baseline the other day, and once this setup is installed with some miles on it, and with the final tune from Dick I will get it back on the dyno. Arrow saw 650 SAE on a Mustang dyno in Detroit on the White Mule car.

Arrow found that it saved about 4 hours on the install to do it this way. We are still tweaking the install procedures with Arrow so nothing is set in stone yet.

Love that you're not wasting any time! Keep us posted please.

Are you guys doing any headers while the engine is out? Or keeping the exhaust stock?

Very nice. I see that dodge still uses those crappy OEM oil cooler lines, have the GEN v's had any seeping/leaking problems yet?

Great pics. Thanks for sharing Andy. Also, interesting heat shielding (sound deadening) on the transmission tunnel. My Gen III surely doesn't have that, not sure about Gen IVs.

Keep the pictures coming.

I could see why pulling the motor goes faster. IDK personally about the Gen V but every other Viper is a bitch to work on, even with the hood off. Once you pull it (especially with space and correct, high quality equipment and people that VEXCH has) you have 360 degree access. And it's simple on a brand new car where everything is clean and shiny and nothing is rusted or fused together from age. At least I think of it like that. I could be wrong.

Yes ARH full exhaust.

I saw my first Gen V leaky set the other day. Covered under warranty but they were leaking.

Wait till you see what they did on the 15's to cut down on valve train noise lol.

Definitely easier on the new car.

Andy, great pics, and looking forward to your progress. It has to be a little rough though to see your brand new car torn apart. Oh, and thanks for the heads up about the oil cooler lines - so you saw your first Gen 5 leaky set? We'll all need to be on the lookout then.

Also jealous that you have THREE Viper techs at Tomball!

I had no idea the oil pan was so gigantic in the Gen V.

My 05 SRT10 certainly doesn't look nearly as big.

Under the plastic coil covers they have a dense foam silencer lol. I guess it absorbes the noise made by the valve train, I am interested to see how it effects heat actually.

I am not, we are installing these just like we would on a customers cars so trying to stick with a standard install.

I'm in for the updates.

Slowing down a little today we need some hardware that is on the way.

It's going to be a great package that can be sold with our warranty, with Arrow and the ViperExchange Racing effort backing the development and design.

So our stage 1 package is what I had on my TA, i.e. ARH full exhaust, and Arrow ECU. Our stage II builds on that package so we are adding ported heads, and switching from the factory VVT cam in cam setup to a non VVT cam, and the Arrow Stage II ECU flash. The heads have big valves, upgraded springs, retainers, pushrods, with the stock roller rockers.
