Folks – just some notes as you head to Gatlinburg. For those who have not been to Gatlinburg before, as you come from Pigeon Forge and enter Gatlinburg, get in the right lane as the turn to the hotel is at the 3rd redlight (I think) and will sneak up on you before you know it.
Some general rules for the cruises and the drive in. Be careful, don’t cross the yellow line – especially on the Dragon. Keep your car filled up at all times and take some snacks and water with you in the car. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Tail of the Dragon Day to Day Agenda
Thursday – travel day
Check in hotel – Registration open early after noon – 1:00 pm
Pick up Goody bags after 3:00 pm
Dinner at 6:00 or so on your own.
Registration continues at 8:00 pm?
Friday
7:00 to 7:15 am - Groups start lining up at hotel
7:20 am - Tim’s group to Knoxville via I-40 leaves meet Knoxville group
7:45 am – Jason’s Group leaves hotel to go to Tellico via Townsend and Vonore
9:00 am. – Tim’s Group Breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Gas up.
10:00 am – leave Cracker Barrel for Tellico Plains
10:30 to 11:00 am – All groups meet in Tellico Plains around 10:30 to 11:00 am Gas up if you need it.
11:15- 11:30 am Fast group leaves and the rest follow.
3:30 -4:00 pm - Trip lasts about 3.5 – 4 hours. Back at hotel
4:45 pm - Trolleys start to go to Park Vista Hotel
5:00 pm - Cash bar opens
6:15 pm - Dinner (or so)
7:00 pm - Recognition of guests and door prizes Party continues or moves to Gatlinburg
The schedule Friday is tight. If you are in Jason’s group and can eat at the hotel before you go, try to do so. When you stop, get food and gas and be ready to drive. Getting 120+ cars back to the hotel by 3:30 pm will mean keeping on schedule. Plenty of time to visit Friday night.
Saturday
7:30 am - Jason’s group starts lining up
8:00 am – Jason’s group leaves on 150 mile ride
8:15 am - Casino group lines up
8:30 am– Casino group leaves
3:00 pm – cars start getting ready for parade
3:15 pm - cars leave to line up
4:15-30 pm – parade to Cherokee Grill starts
5:00 pm – Cherokee Grill – after dinner back to hotel, party starts
If you are not in line for the parade when the escorts start to move us, it will be very difficult to catch up. Also your chance to be in the filming of the parade will be lost. Please help us stay on schedule.
Sunday
Travel day for those headed home.
Pirelli Tour
Those who want to attend the Pirelli Tour All Vipers must be fueled up and ready to leave the Greystone Lodge at 10:30AM sharp Sunday morning.
From Gatlinburg we will be driving through Wears Valley, Townsend, the Foothills Parkway, Highway 129, and Highway 360 to our lunch stop in Tellico Plains at about 12:30pm. Tellico Grains Bakery is providing lunch to our group at $20 per person.
After lunch we will take Highway 68 and follow it toward Coker Creek and Copper Hill and then crossing a 300 foot bridge into Blue Ridge Georgia. We will continue south on highway 5 and merge with highway 76. 76 will then take us to 136, 136 to 53 where we then cross back over highway 411 and under I-75 finishing in Rome, Georgia between 5 and 6pm.
