Some input? Viper TA 3200 Miles. Sounds like diff whine or from the transmission possibly? Its kinda hard to tell inside the car but sounds more like the diff to me. Does it in any gear around 50+ mph only with slight accelerations. Changed the tranny and diff fluid, but didnt make a difference.

Sounds like diff whine to me...my Gen 4 does it, but probably not that loud. Fluid won't have an impact...it is likely a pattern issue. It might be a pain, but you could probably get it fixed under warranty.

The beauty of having a full warranty on a track car.

Diff whine is loudest/most noticeable when you are in a high gear and between load and coast.

My car had this too at around 2K, Dealer changed the diff fluid and found some metal shearings.
They ordered a new diff and changed it under warranty, no questions asked, seems like they know some cars will have this.

My 09 started like that and got louder in very short time frame. Removed the belly pan and found a pinion seal leak that was not visible on the garage floor. I think it went toast on the trip back from voi in Utah back to Texas. Got it replaced under warranty. Bearing races were toast. Look like someone took a hammer to them! I was told fluid leaked out on the trip back.

Can't imagine driving it on track knowing the car has a mechanical problem and being distracted by that concern and the noise. Could also create a warranty issue. I'd sit that one out. Hopefully that can be fixed in time.

My entire differential has to be replaced under warranty. No noise but there was a slight vibration at hiway speeds. New diff fixed the issue 100%.

Good to know, I had to go in for service 3 times, the 3rd time was the charm at a different dealer before they realized that the whine isn't normal and the diff had to be replaced.

When they replaced the differential under warranty, did they replace the whole unit or just the guts?

Just the guts....So far two viper techs at two different dealerships could not seal it back up correctly. I've been leaking diff fluid since the day they took it apart. The dealership sent a request for a whole new diff already sealed and it was rejected. Instead the factory sent the outer case. I'm taking it in again tomorrow to get the outer case changed. So far I've been to the dealership 4 times regarding this diff problem, tomorrow will be 5. Also now the car shakes more than usual. Especially the stick shift knob at a complete stop.

I'm at 800 miles and in the past 200 miles I noticed at around 45mph on throttle input it becomes noticeably loud. Letting off results in no noise, its only audible at 45+, and from there it's speed dependent. :-(

Some insights
1. One of the few parts that needs a proper break-in is the diff. If you immeadely accelerate after pick up, you almost guarantee a diff issue.
2. On all the Gens, it is hard to seal the diff. That is a Dana issue.
3. The viscous motor and Trans mounts magnify the shifter movement.

I only eased into the throttle and never went past about 50% in the first 500 miles. Either way it's an almost inperceptable problem to deal with while the part is ordered from the dealership.

I have some whine, not as loud as in the video, but it's there. I have to be cruising 65+, and I can hear some when I'm on throttle. Have to turn down the music to really hear it clearly, and have to really get on the car to make it do it. Also seems temp and road surface dependent: seemed a tick louder before the car really warmed up. Different types of macadam also is different: one section oh highway near my house will be louder.
Reading some of the older posts, some that have had diffs replaced had noise at much slower speeds, in lower gears. Not the case with mine.
10,169 miles on the car. Can't really get on the car too fast in these temps, and really won't be driving much over the winter. If it gets worse come driving season, I'll take my tech on a drive and see what he thinks. If it were never worse than this, I believe I'll live with it.
By the way, over in the Challenger forums, there are similar complaints. I think the SRT8 rearend is a Getrag while we have Dana. Don't remember excessive whine in my 07 SRT8, but then I probably couldn't hear it over the Zoomers exhaust system I had on that car!
