The wait is almost over. Thanks to JonB for the somewhat recent shipments of tires and wheels. Although work has delayed my progress a bit, the Pirelli P-Zeros are mounted on the wheels and ready for me to get off my butt and provide pics of what they look like on the car.

Why ami I not doing that right now instead of writing this, you ask.? My only answer is wanting to get some of the technical bits out of the way while I have the focus. Hopefully some of what I post can help with your tire and wheel decisions.

My ultimate goal is better/bigger brakes for a more confident track experience. I also don't particularly like my stock cast wheels. The hand of Mother Nature helped with providing a hail damage check for my daily beater, so I did the right thing and took advantage of some great pricing for hot rod parts!

The wheels are the G5 sidewinder II in hyper black. Rears are 19", and weigh 24.1 lbs. fronts are 18" and weigh 19.4 lbs.

Tires are Pirelli P-Zero. 355/30-19 rear and 295/30-18 front. These are replacing 335/35-17 and 275/40-17's on stock wheels. The new front wheels/tires immediately appear much smaller than the rears, which got me wondering what has changed with new setup? New front tires mounted and aired stand about 25" tall, same height as the stock front tires/wheels, so other than width of the new tire and shorter profile, the height of the tire, and front clearance should not change. The rear tire/wheel combo is where the height difference is noticeable. New rear step stands about 27" tall vs. about 25.5" tall for stock wheels. This should help to fill the rear wheel well a bit better, but will change the speedo. Perhaps a slight rake to the car?

As JonB and others have reported, the wider tire will fill out the rim a lot better and provide a bit of curb protection. I agree. These tires appear much more square to the rim and have a nice overlap. If I were to shoe the old wheels again, I'd definitely opt for something wider if available.

Not sure the weight of the wheels/tires I'm replacing yet, but this combo comes in at a total of 60 lbs per wheel for the rears and 45 lbs for the fronts.

So, sorry for no finished product pics yet, but your feigned interest will keep me motivated!

Here's the finished product. Pics do not do it justice. Classy sinister might describe things.

Sunshine pics when the rain goes away.

Enjoy.

Looks awesome! I see some lowering caps in your future to rid you of the 4x4 look, but 100% correct choice in wheels, those look amazing on the car.

Right you are! It would look better a bit lowered. My 4x4 dirt driveway and I are having that very argument right now...

I hear ya on that. Mine is lowers. I had to build the entrance to my garage up with a brick ramp and still gotta hit at at as hard and angle as possible not to drag the Jack point.

The wheels look good on there. I think new stock wheels are always a good choice on previous gen Vipers.

Those look really good. Nice choice.
I am also putting gen 5 rims and tires on my gts. Do you notice any rubbing with the wider tires? My car is lowered about 1.5" so that might make a difference.
