I got tired of the Corsa's sand blasting the painted surfaces near the bottom/front of the rocker panel. I picked up a pair of these viper specific boomerang mud flaps. FYI -They are shaped like a boomerang.

Interested in where they were purchased.

I just became tired of the Corsa's removing the paint on the lower part of the rocker. Here is the other side of the flap:

10349

I just stenciled the outline of the wheelwell on to a piece of cardboard and transferred the shape on to a piece of black plastic. The next step is to figure out what to do with what is shown. At a minimum a set will go on to to my car. You can hardly see them from the front and they blend in from the back. If they are put on a new car, the rocker will be kept like new. The car does have the 3M clear bra, but, it is no mtch for the Corsa's.

I called them the boomerang flap because when removed they look just like a small boomerang

Cool, I want a pair. How much to you want to make me a set and ship them? I'm serious. As a side, note I want to Xpel my rockers, but since you say your 3M is no match for the Corsa, I'm wondering if it's worth it. These tires pick up everything!

Jack B

The 3M works fine everywhere except on the front lip (inside of wheelwell) of the rocker. The Corsa's are the problem.

I finally found a source of polyurethane that will work for this purpose. Since my car is white, I may use the white kind and make a template that goes all the way up the inner wheel well to protect all of the exposed paint, then have the outer edge taper down and out smoothly to deflect stones.

On the G5 the damage is all to the lower 1-1/2" of the sill and lip of the wheelwell. I do not believe you have to go any higher than the flap in my picture.

Unfortunately, the problem is that we have just about zero Gen-5's in this area... or I would have already jumped on this. Its on the to-do list, but getting my hands on a Gen-5 with all of the other stuff going on at the moment is a problem to say the least.

I did mine in the driveway without removing the tires. There's actually pretty good clearance if you turn the wheels to full lock. The wheel well material is not so hard that it can't be drilled by hand. I did the first one this way before my GF showed up with my truck that had my right angle drill attachment in it. Followed the directions as far as drilling a 1/8" pilot hole and then enlarged to 5/16". I would think you'd be fine doing it at the factory. I had about 400 miles on my Viper beforeI put them on and could already see damage. Cheap insurance.

so they not a direct bolt on & would require drilling?!

Jack B

You have to drill one 5/16 hole, the other fastener is the upper factory bolt/hole.

Maybe it will still work if I dont drill? I guess 1 end will just be a little bouncy thats all? Like it will never drop down since its so light?

I have film covering this area and I don't believe it would hold up very long. The hole gets drilled into the wheel well just above the slot that allows air into the sills not the body.

The film lasted on my car about 1000-2000 miles, it had Corsas

That's longer than I thought it would last. I guess it depends on how much junk is on your roads. The Kumhos are pretty efficient at throwing up everything.

Jack B

Some where in this thread I posted pictures of the damage. it is not light scaring, it was total sand blasting. I put them on too late, which means they were put on to cover the damage. These should be put on at the dealership or as soon as the car is picked up. The latest design is deeper and if also protects the underside of the sill all the way back, yet is still hard to see.

I saw that pic. Picture is worth a thousand words in this case. Well worth the one hole compared to the complete removal of paint and other damage in this area. Have to agree with you on putting them on at the dealer especially if your not getting the car wrapped. I wrapped mine on Monday after picking it up Saturday night. Guards went on as soon as it got back home.

FWIW, I have these and DID NOT DRILL anything.

The fronts use one existing hole, so in order to secure it I used Velcro which I bought off e-bay. 4" x 1" strips.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-Strips-VELCRO-Brand-Industrial-Grade-Heavy-Duty-Strength-Outdoor-Indoor/362717581845?hash=item5473a71215:g:oa8AAOSw3kBdM8V r

These 4" x 1" strips fit just about perfectly, horizontally, along a section of the wheel well at the inside/bottom of the flap - no trimming needed. Can't see the Velcro either, once installed.

I don't drive my car in the rain, but otherwise these things have been on my car for a few years now and have yet to be loose at all. I have not replaced the original strips of Velcro.

I know how it sounds, but it really does work well, without drilling.

I did not remove the tires. Turned to allow using a drill bit to make the hole. A drill wasn't required as it cut really easily.
