I am trading my gen v viper for another new gen V which is at a dealer 500 miles away. I was going to get it but decided to have it delivered.

They want my title and the money difference before delivering their car and picking up mine.

Is this standard procedure ?

I just traded a couple months ago with John Gastman at Roanoke and I gave the fellow who works for John a check and my title when they delivered the car. This is the reason for the above question.

Thanks

Yes, and that is a very fair way of doing it on the dealers end...

If it isn't a big reputable dealer, the first thing I'd want is in writing terms of the deal before handing over either. I personally don't think asking for that is out of the question, but I'd want trade / sale / terms price written down.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Despite all the bad experiences with dealerships, I highly doubt the dealership will try to "pull a fast one" on you.... every dealer has different policies for trade-ins...it is extremely unlikely they have malicious intent. Now if it were a back alley garage dealership you might think twice. If you haven't inspected the car, make sure the car hauler does it for you and hold them liable should there be anything wrong.

You made a good choice having it delivered and not trying to rent a trailer and do it yourself. Make sure the transport company you use is "extra" careful with the car, and I would stress the importance of this to them many times. I used a supposedly reputable car hauler and they ended up letting one of the ratchet straps scratch the lower part of my rocker panel. Talk about ruining the "grand unveiling" for me.

I wouldn't do it. Give to them when it gets there. You can send them a copy of your title and cashiers check if they are nervous. When it arrives show them you have the title and check, inspect the car, have them unload it and then hand over the documents.

Yes I feel the same, a big dealer is not going to take a chance and screw someone over. On the hand, a private buyer, well sometimes, maybe most of the time I feel bad for dealers dealing with them;) The few cars I privately sell here and there, I find regular people are much harder to deal with than dealers. I always tell my wife, I don't know how the dealers take it...

I would not give them the title to my car either till I was 100% satisfied with the new car in hand. That said, I would not mind forking up some serious cash to show them I was not yanking their chain either.

Spot on...some of the people will drive you absolutely insane. Because of this, I will sometimes resort to the trade-in vs selling it myself for a few extra bucks.

Im curious as to why you are trading in a Gen 5 for a gen 5? Is one a few years older?

Seems like there are countless people doing this with and without vouchers.

More than likely you will be using the same transporter that brings your new Viper to transport your trade-in...insure you do a very thorough inspection of your old Viper to insure that if damage was done on its way back to the dealer, it doesn't come off the value you and the dealer agreed on. Keep a copy of the inspection report. But you probably know this already.

When I traded my Gen 2 to a dealer in December on my V, I just sent them pictures on my phone of the cheque/title and they picked it up on delivery. Then a month later they hit my Visa for a delivery fee that they forgot to mention. I was pissed because I had even offered to pick it up, but I didn't get anywhere. Just make sure you get that figured out in advance, lesson learned.

I often trade exotic vehicles to dealers across country and this is always how business is done. The only way I would refuse this method is if it was a dealer with bad rep.

The dealer is Criswell Chrysler in Maryland.

How can I determine their rep ?
I was told by the salesman their Chevrolet division is one of the largest sellers of corvettes in the nation.

Simple google search their name. If they are that big I think you are fine without worrying too much.
Sign the papers before shipping.

Furman at their Chevy store I'd trust in a heartbeat. Their Dodge salesmen are a bit goofy. But, I think they are a big enough name to not screw you over.

I didn't know 2 vent hood was even an option for an SRT in 2014, or ever for that matter?

I bought my second viper out of state and no money traded hands until the car was delivered to my door.
