I have a 2013 SRT with the Uconnect 8.4A nav ready head unit. Ive read that you can take it to the dealer and they can unlock the preprogrammed Navi function in the unit. It even says Nav ready, see dealer for details on the window sticker. Has anyone done this? How long does it take and how much is it? Thanks!

You can probably do this right from your home. No need to go to the dealer. My Cherokee has the nav ready UConnect. Jeep sent me a letter in the mail on how to unlock the NAV portion of the system. It was arounf $500 i believe.

That would be awesome if you could do it yourself at home. I'll call someone at SRT or Dodge and check into this. Thanks for the reply!

Unlocking means those that didnt have navigation come standard on their cars can get it. They still have to lay for the feature but they can get it done.

He doesn't have nav at all. This is really a 13 model year problem only and a small subset of SRT models at that. I serviosly considered doing it when I had my 13 but decided to wait until Apple CarPlay is integrated. If you have an iPhone you may want to wait until their software is fully integrated and you'll get your iPhone's nav for free on you touch screen.

01sapphirebob: Thanks so much for that info! Its not that Im going to be taking lots of trips in the car but the fact that the navi is already in there, makes me want to unlock it. I will take the car on some trips/drives outside my area so it will come in handy at some point.

Voice of Reason: I do have an iphone but havent heard of the Apple CarPlay system. Is this now standard on the 15 cars or something you have to download to your phone and then integrate it to your car? Like I stated above, this Nav is something Id use just every now and then. Thanks

I don't have the nav. I rarely ever have a use for it, ad when I do, my IPhone works just fine. Interesting info though, thanks. Reaper and I have the same car.

Dodge hasn't released an upgrade for CarPlay yet but I hope it comes this year, it was announced mid last year that they were going to adopt the system so it's already been 9 months.

What do you guys think about the Nav system ? I tried it a few times and went back to Waze.

I have the same NAV (or very similar) in my viper and 2014 Grand Cherokee, personally, I think they are as good as it gets. Like all NAV systems they have to be kept up to date. I travel for business and find the NAV extremely useful.

That is about the only thing I would find any better about using google maps from my phone, is it is up to date all the time. But if I have a choice, I will much prefer looking at a proper sized screen that gives me good guidance. Over risking a distracted driving ticket while trying to use my little screen on my phone.

I guess it's nice to have the Nav but it's so much easier to use Waze or Google for voice command internet based searches that are always real time current. If I didn't have it I certainly wouldn't bother having a factory unit installed.
