Hi All,

I have been living and breathing Vipers lately as I get sucked back into the Viper World :) I started off thinking maybe to go with a Gen II RT/10, then the Gen II GTS started to lure me, but last week I bought Maurice's Gen V book, what a great read and it has got me thinking if I should save a bit longer and get a Gen V as it really seems like a beautiful car and a true successor to the GEN I/II models.

I would like to see one in the flesh really though and was wondering if anyone in the UK has bought one over yet as it would be great to meet up if possible?

Cheers,
Paul.

None in the UK yet Paul, there are at least 2 in Europe that I know of.

The £ -$ exchange rate sucks for us at the moment not to mention the amount of Duty and Taxes involved in buying a new car from the USA, there is also no dealership back up so any warranty work (should you have an issue) would be non existent! :(

Max's Gen V at the Le mans Classic last year in France.

Every time I go over to the UK on business the exchange rate kills me but I did notice that's its currently a lot better for the dollar at the moment. Everything's so expensive over there especially gas and going out to eat. What kind of duty and taxes do you have to pay on a car from the US?

Roughly it works out as this
This is based on the product costing $85000.00
Shipping approx £1350.00 shared container
Insurance? I guessed £2000.00

Total customs value (CIF): £60039.65 This is the amount that customs values your import at
- Duty @10%: £6003.96
- VAT @20%: £13208.72
Total import duty & taxes due: £19212.68
This is the amount that needs to be paid to customs
Total landed cost: £79252.33
This is the total cost of importing, including product, shipping, insurance and import duty & taxes
at exchange rate of 1 GBP = 1.5 USD

Then you have got to get the car passed by emissions and register the car = more monies.

WOW, maybe I'd better scratch that idea, some serious money there.

Hopefully Chrysler will consider offering it for sale to the European Market, although I won't hold my breath.

It is a seriously beautiful car :)

That's still better than in the Netherlands.
If you import a new Gen V from the states, you also have to pay about £ 75000 CO2 Tax.

Yes they're crazy here.

Don't feel too bad. I also travel to Brazil a lot on business. The tax of a new car is about 100% of the value of the car.

My 02 was just over a year old when i shipped it here to the UK BUT the $ was two to the £ ......

IVA work on a Gen V would be a fair bit of work also but do-able...

Yes I've now binned the idea of a Gen V, maybe at a later date when the Dollar is a little more favourable and the price of the Gen V's is lower but for now I'm back to my original idea of a Gen II RT/10, red with low mileage, hard top and an aftermarket exhaust would be nice, I'm in no rush but I'm guessing importing from the States will be my best bet so I'll just keep scouring the classifieds.
