My den. The rest of the Viper memorabilia is either in our theater/bar area or in storage. Next house needs even larger garage. Don't have enough room to put it all up and not get too cluttered. My wife and I are neat freaks.

1219I wanted to share my "working garage" with the other VOA members. My garage isn't as nice and tidy as the others I have viewed, but I have been using it for a lot of stuff. I restored the 1964 Galaxie in there and I have also put up a temporary spray booth for repainting my Viper side pods and fascia after running it on track a lot. You will also notice I have a lot of posters and extra parts for the Viper including a hoof, 2 rear fascias, 1 front fascia, a trunk and various interior parts. I also have all the stock parts from my 1999 RT-10 so that if they are needed many years from now I will have them. In one of the photos I show the 1997 Ram SST pickup, The 99 RT-10 and the "White Whale", my fully restored 1964 Ford Galaxie. Fortunately for the cars I have a gas fired heater which keeps all the vehicles in great shape. The one thing that is missing is a lift. That is the one item I really need to get.

Sorry that I had to do a "do-over" of my previous post, but my small and crummy photos didn't show up very well. I have a couple of shots of the garage and my stash of extra Viper parts. Maybe I can build another one if I get a few more items. I also wanted to show the nice Viper stained glass that a friend of mine made. The white car in the background is a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 convertible I restored in this garage.

Yeah, i did the UCoatIt epoxy. It looks killer and has held up really well for as long as it has been down. But it is starting to lift some, in very small spots. Overall, a good product at a great price.
Having said all of that though, i will probably just do a concrete stain at the new house. Its 39x24, should be a decent size for a 3 car.

HOLY SMOKES. My lift and cars just barely fits in my new garage. :;
The only configuration that works (allows the lift to rest on the stops) is with the Corvette on top. It will take some time to unpack, organize and customize the new garage but i will get there eventually.
This garage isnt as tall or as deep as my last one, but it is a bit wider @ 39 feet (3 car).

I recall seeing someone who bought like 10-20 new FGTs and kept them all on and under lifts like that in a row. And then recently sold them all. The garage setup looked very similar as the lifts were all in a row like that..

If someone told me I had one car to keep (very possible-wife) it would not be the 458, the McLaren etc , it would be GTs. The 92 Viper might be second. The Mac is fastest , though.

40 x 80 footprint. stick-built with 2x6 studs. its amazing how fast it gets filled up! it was just an ugly, dirty, dark green box when i bought it. i did all the remodeling work myself. had a little help with some plumbing and electrical. the park district and high school used to hold baseball practices in it, and a few times a year it was home to a flea market.

thank you. start getting the word about about your garage. once people find out about it, you will start getting phone calls every now and then from people asking if you want this or that. alot of the gas/oil memorabilia is getting very expensive, but good deals can still be found if you pay attention. pictures and dollar-store frames are cheap wall fillers. do as much work as you can to save money, it isnt rocket science.

Just kidding. My garage is very plain. Imagine a 2 car garage with white walls and a concrete floor with a slate viper parked next to a '13 Focus ST (The GF's... my 03 Neon SRT sits outside).
P.S. Is it just me or should the above picture instead say, "PRIORITIES: Some men have them... and others don't own Vipers"? ;)

If you guys saw mine you would probably call VPS (Viper Protective Services) and have mine placed in a foster garage until I showed I could be a good owner. Mine is old so the size is weird so it is a small two car, therefor a nice big size for the Viper cause my truck is too tall and stays outside. And it could definitely use some cosmetic work. But, in my defense, it keeps my Viper out of the elements and is wired into the security system
You guys definitely give me something to strive for though. Some impressive stuff on here.

My dad did this with a Mustang wheel. He used a really long threaded rod with the same thread as a factory stud. Then just put a lug nut on it like it was mounted on the car. More than likely he did the same thing but with the center cover on you can't see it. Although my dad did it on a cement wall and just drilled a hole all the way thru with nuts and washers on the back side of the rod.

I bolted a 2 X 4 to the stud. The 2 X 4 fit snuggly inside the rim. Then I bolted another smaller 2 X 4 to the first one, and through to the stud. I used the 2nd 2 X 4 to give the rim lag bolts more material to bite. Seems solid against the wall.

Here is some of the work that went into my garage a few years back. I've got plenty of lessons learned for my next home purchase (i.e. at least three car garage, 13+ft ceilings, etc.)
GLOOMY GARAGE: Viper enters gloomy garage 5+ years ago.
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/SSPX0121.jpg
PAINTING and SHELVES: All walls painted and temporary shelves set up
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/IMAG1740.jpg
LIGHTING and FLOOR SEALER: Added 5 2-bar florescent ceiling fixtures with cool white lights and started with industrial grade floor epoxy sealing
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/IMAG1772.jpg
FINAL PRODUCT:
- Completed Epoxy floor,
- Added e-outlets, cabinets, table, and a chair
- Added wall protection with some absurdly sized fasteners
- Covered water heater and added peg board (all red is pegboard)
- Added tire rack for road racing wheels
- Added fold-down shelf for motor oil (right side)
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/IMAG1879s.jpg
INSULATION: Added to garage door in order control some heat leaks/gains
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/GOPR0208-1.jpg
GARAGE MOTOR LIGHTING: The built-in pair of 60W incandescent lights weren't cutting it. I added 4-bar florescent fixture directly tied to garage door motor lighting relay. Works great for those late night arrivals.
http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee424/345s-bspinnin/IMAG1941.jpg
FUNCTIONAL GARAGE: Just a pic of my Viper in 1000s of pieces during heads/cam installation.

345, that is an awesome transformation! Hiding the water heater was pretty clever and the wall protection really gives it a unique look. Is the peg board fiberboard painted red or something else?
What epoxy product did you use? Has it held up to tire heat? Did all the stuff on your shelves fit into the cabinets? Removing the wire shelves really gives the garage a spacious look.

I used polycarbonate corrugated roofing panels from Home Depot (CLICK ME) (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Suntuf-26-in-x-8-ft-Solar-Gray-Polycarbonate-Corrugated-Roofing-Panel-101929/100062380#.UtlRwp7nbmg). I cut each 8ft section into three pieces then used black/graphite drywall screws to fasten it to the drywall/studs. I topped it off with a 2x4 that I painted black and added some 1" bolts just for aesthetics. That wall protection is really sturdy and I have no problem laying wheels, opening doors onto it, or putting my greasy hands on it.
Here is an old cell phone pic showing a bit more detail to my wall protection.

I used an industrial grade epoxy purchased through Car Guy Garage (CLICK ME) (http://www.carguygarage.com/epgafl.html). It was around $700 to that two car garage. The epoxy and chips are coated with two layers of clear epoxy topcoat (4 coats total). No hot tire or chipping issues. I does have some battle wounds from jack stands and lifting jack rolling. I also discovered that our red anti-freeze will leave small stain if you let it sit there for a long time. I missed cleaning some spots when I was doing my heads/cam. I found those spots a week later, but its barely noticeable. The peg board is an MDF type type board that I painted with red oil based paint. I painted the electrical outlets and water main surround with the same color. As for storage, just about everything in the shelves ended up into cabinets. And btw, my brother did gift me a Viper wall clock a years ago. Thanks for the suggestion.

Seriously that's like over a 1/4 mill in vipers he's got there. The garage itself is spectacular, from layout to presentation and the collection is outstanding. Very well done! I've come back to look at it multiple times. Just awesome

Isn't it funny how we can own a DD, a Viper, and whatever else and still give ourselves a hard time over not having as nice a setup as someone else in the club? I catch myself doing it too until I remind myself I'm comparing my Viper setup to someone else's. Bottom line, no matter how ugly or small my garage is, it has a Viper in it. Even though I am losing, there are people at would kill to come in 2nd in this race.
That being said, I have some serious work to do on my garage just to get it presentable on here. I am however redoing my front living room all Viper themed. Stay tuned for pics!

That's the only thing I'm not totally keen on in my garage is the floor. Everyone raves about how great Race Deck is, but walking on plastic tiles takes some getting used to...feels a little "cheap". :) The other thing I don't like about RD is if I mop it with only a damp mop, it seems to take forever to dry. Don't get me wrong, it looks great though...pros/cons to everything I suppose.

I have thought about race deck flooring but just do not think that I would like it due to the same reasons you mentioned. I used an industrial grade epoxy on my last garage's floor and it held up well to me working on my cars so I think I will probably go that route again. Plus the company I work for sells some very nice epoxy floor coatings. The only bad thing is having to prep the floor before coating, which entails getting everything out of the garage first.

I decided to avoid race deck and epoxy by going with a granite chip floor. It's TRULY durable and looks amazing. No need to add sand as it has just enough texture to stop from slipping. It REALLY looks good up close as it's got a lot of depth to it. Picture a stack of small granite chips 1/4 high and then a clear coat over that. Not cheap to do but truly looks custom, holds up well, and actually the easiest to maintain. Epoxy no matter how good will scrape, darken under your wheels over time, and once it starts chipping up, it really becomes an eye sore. One of the issues I've had with race deck, is that I wash in the garage. The water gets below the plastic and takes longer to dry out - smells like wet concrete. I truly became an advocate for these floors, I'll do them from now on. And of course you can get them in a variety of colors.

I love my Race Deck flooring. The epoxy paints are great, but the prep work is the catch. If you have any kind of a problem with the paint, all the manufacturer has to say is you didn't prep the floor good enough. An easy out for the manufacturer.

I recall seeing someone who bought like 10-20 new FGTs and kept them all on and under lifts like that in a row. And then recently sold them all. The garage setup looked very similar as the lifts were all in a row like that..

I have epoxy on my floors are am really happy with it as it was done professionally and no chipping or peeling at 10 yrs. That said, I'm intrigued with the granite idea. Could you post up some pics from different angles and distances to show what it looks like? I haven't seen that before.

One year in using rubber matting, like a work out floor, 3' by 3' interlocking squares and love it, can spill anything on it, if you tear one you can replace it, and talk about comfortable to stand on, anyway, at least a different answer to most and am happy with the result.

Do you have any pics of the granite flooring? I would definitely like to see how it looks. Also, you mentioned the cost is quite high. Do you know what the cost per square foot would approximately be?
On the epoxy flooring, the prep work is definitely key. If I do decide on an epoxy floor, I will be mechanically prepping the floor using a blast track machine. This will allow the material to bond to the concrete better than just chemically etching the floor.

question for you that went with race deck or similar?
What do you do around the outside edge? I am positive garages are not an exact fit for 12x12 flooring. I know there trim pieces, but can you cut them to fit or do you just leave a gap between the race deck and the walls?

I cut my race deck with a table saw. Just like butter.
They also make tapered edges. I used those at the entrance of the garage.

Some absolutely incredible garages (and cars) in this thread. I don't know if any of you are already posting there, but there's a forum at garagejournal.com that is all about garages (and cars), all the time.
I don't have much money, or a Viper. But here are some pictures of my small, low-budget garage.
http://imageshack.us/a/img5/7153/1023616dlrf.jpg
Everything in it is DIY -- repurposed, second-hand, or re-made out of trashed or damaged stuff I picked up on Ebay. This bench was made out of a forklift-damaged Equipto cabinet that I cut into two halves and topped with a piece of butcher block from Ikea. The tool cabinet to the right is made out of two damaged Lista cabinets. The drill press was a free-standing model that -- again -- was broken. So I cut the main pillar and made it a benchtop model.
http://imageshack.us/a/img820/2461/redfromabove.jpg
I was stuck with a pillar in the center of my 89-year-old garage, so I made a kind of 'kitchen island' bench out of some Vidmar cabinet halves.
http://imageshack.us/a/img254/7836/backsideq.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img39/8922/centerislandagain.jpg
I tiled the whole place with ceramic tile. It's the most durable floor covering I've found, and it was .59/sf.
http://imageshack.us/a/img547/9292/615edlr.jpg
On the parking side, I have two benches that fold down from the wall.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads16/BothDown1265137189.jpg
I even tiled the top of my lift. It's an industrial hydraulic lift table that I repurposed for my old 911. I cut the concrete, dug out the hole and re-poured so that the whole thing would disappear when it's not being used.
http://imageshack.us/a/img405/5157/648uplr.jpg
It's clean in the pictures, but it's a working shop.

Hey Jack, how's that tile holding up? I've been thinking about it, what kind is it?
The tile is plain old ceramic tile, which I found on sale for .59/sf at the Home Depot one day. I'd never set tile before, but picked up a cheap cutter at Harbor Freight and did some Googling to learn about how to put the stuff down so that I could jack a car up on it or drop tools. It's held up great for over five years now. And as neat as things look in the pictures I've posted, I've dropped just about anything you can name -- and rolled a 500+-pound engine over it on a little floor jack. The only thing that leaves a mark on it is welding slag.
It was one of the best impulse purchases I've ever made.
Since then, I've learned that porcelain tile would have been even better. But here's a quick video of me taking a 4-lb sledge hammer to the stuff. The camera jumps from the impacts, but the tile does not break.

Jack, your garage looks great...very usable and I like your budget too. The tile floor looks great, and it probably should hold up under a 4-post lift. Seems like a much more cost-effective flooring than some of these lifetime epoxy coatings my neighbors have been using (at about $4 per sq ft).

My current garage is epoxy...not sure who did it (professional or one of the previous owners), but either way, it is coming up in quite a few areas. I really like epoxy, but if something is even a little bit off, you'll end up hating it years down the road. When I get around to it, it will get replaced with RaceDeck.

What happens to the salt and road grime from snow/ice on these racedeck floors? Does it stay on the surface or seep through and pile up underneath? Just wondering..

I have had RaceDeck for quite a few years. GREAT product. The underneath side of the tile is channeled. Water, etc. will simply travel the way to a drain in your garage, or like mine, out of the front of the garage. Just depends how your garage is sloped/graded.
If you are a member of the VOA, they will probably give you a 10% discount. They did for me with the old club.
Here is a picture of my mancave, I didn't find any really clear ones, but if you walk right pass the first Viper in the narrow hallway as seen on the picture and turn left, you get to the main hall, there I have putten all my other Vipers, Ford GT's and off course some Porsches. More to the right there is plenty of room to fiddle on the cars, there is a lift and some workbenches. At the end you find the bar and lounge for some cold beers...
http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u678/Arielatom/foto_zpsdeaa016c.jpg
But seriously...I wished I lived in the USA instead of in the Netherlands, the money I paid for this car would give me a 9 months old Viper instead of a 9 years old one and the money I have to pay for the garage would get me a real mancave with plenty of room for 2 or more cars...but I don't complain, I love my car and this garage really only is a way of keeping it next to my house, wrenching on it happens at the company, where there is plenty of space!
But that "worst garage on the club" price is definitely mine! Where can I pick it up, no need to look any further. I actually have to put rubber mats in front of the garage to get in there without scratching the bottom and I have rubber mats taped on the right wall for the case I would scratch aside it, I have to park it all the way to the right so I can actually get the door open far enough to get out of it :lol2: and I have some cardboard on the floor because the stone floor is ...well not racedeck...
