View Full Version : Anyone Seen A1 8 LTR Recently!

Hi All,
Firstly I would like to say hello to everyone, this is my first post on a Viper forum for many many years, I used to run the UK branch of VCA what seems like an eternity ago now, probably around the mid to late 90's before handing the reigns over to Paul Lacey, who I only found out in the week after talking to Adrian had passed away, very sad news. I bought my Viper back then direct from Chrysler, it was one of their show cars and as if it wasn't outrageous enough Hennessey then used it to develop their bodykit, designed by Steve Everitt, it then had a few mods done at the same time + a full respray. In my madness I sold it to start a printing company, not my best move I have to say but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
So the reason for the post was to see if anyone on here now owns Al 8 LTR or is anyone knows of its whereabouts? After speaking to Adrian in the week he seemed to think that is was now possibly out in Europe somewhere, that car was such a big part of my life so it would be great to know that it is still being enjoyed by someone, somewhere. In fact Vipers in general have always remained a big part of my life as I contribute to a lot of other forums to do with work, I know own a HiFi shop and have always used the username Vipers :-)
I have to admit that I have really got the Viper bug again now, over the last couple of weeks I have slowly been sucked back into the Viper world and in the not too distant future will hopefully be looking to become a Viper owner again, I will be on the lookout for a red Gen II RT/10 or maybe a GTS, possibly importing one as there is just so much choice in the States.
I would look to do it sooner but my other love are Lotus's and I have just bought a new Exige V6 LF1 + a 1996 M100 Elan so funds are a little limited at the moment.
I am really looking forward to this year though and attending as many of the Viper events as possible, as long as you guys don't mind a Lotus guy coming along, would really love to attend Spa if anyone is looking for a passenger :-)
Anyway I won't ramble on anymore, below are a couple of pics of my Viper from way back and if anyone does have any news on it from when I sold it around 2000 that will be much appreciated, thanks -

I've never seen that body kit before...in person or a picture. That should be easy to locate if it's still got that body kit and the owner is driving it. Someone on these viper forums should remember seeing it.
...welcome back!

You also might want to try post this in the "General" Section. It would get more views.

I remember seeing that car for sale in Classic American magazine many years ago, I may still have the advert somewhere?
Welcome back to the Nest Paul.

Thanks Guys, thanks for the tip about posting in the general section, I will do that later.
I had forgotten about Classic America, I used to subscribe to that and my car was in there a couple of times.
I've still got all my Viper related mags etc in my Mums loft, hoping to go up there at the weekend to pull everything down.
Found the below picture online yesterday of my car before I got my hands on it, I certainly wouldn't put that kit on my next Viper, at the time though I thought it looked great but the standard shape really is prefect as it it, just can't make my mind up whether to go RT/10 again or GTS.

Does anyone know anything about the below Final Edition GTS? quite tempted to go an have a look if I get the time, quite like the idea of a limited edition GTS if I go that way -

Don't know much about it, its at a dealers in Guildford, Surrey. Make sure you get a Carfax search done on the Vin number to check history. being in a dealers price should be negotiable?
There was a yellow RT/10 for sale a while ago in Aldershot, Not sure if that is still for sale, again this was at a used car dealers.
Theres a 2005 SRT/10 for sale at a dealers near Sunningdale but the guy wants stupid money for it at£79.000 :lol2:
Dave has a 1996 Blue / White stripe Viper for sale or might be a 97, can't remember? Might be worth a look? he is in the Guildford area. :) Its not currently advertised on any classified pages.
Please don't buy another body kit :D

Thanks Fatboy 18, I have found this on FEVIPER.COM, seems to have had a few mods done.
http://www.feviper.com/cars/324/324.html
I've got an install around the Surry area on Thursday so I might pop in for a look, time permitting, that could be dangerous though as once I start actually going to look at cars it normally ends up in a purchase :-)
I have to admit that slowly but surely I am being drawn to a Gen II GTS, but don't worry there certainly won't be anymore bodykits :-)

I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are anymore Final Edition GTS's in the UK? I think no matter what I will go for a red Viper so a Final Edition seems to appeal at the moment, a low mileage would be great, even if that means importing one.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info Mark, as I mentioned in the PM, I did go an look today, generally it is in excellent condition other than a little paint bubbling up on the roof that would need looking at, it does look like the whole roof has been resprayed at some point, which is a little concerning, I will see if I can find out why.
I must admit that I am quite tempted to bring an ACR over from the States, a Final Edition ACR would be awesome, I got a quote from a shipping company and that came in at around £12,000 including taxes and any conversion work needed, so what with buying the car I reckon you'd be looking at £40k all in, so not to bad really, the only worrying factor is buying without seeing it, unless I fly out I guess.
Below is a couple of pics from today -

Thanks Viper Baz, I can't remember now, I did see it on Ebay a few years back and made contact then but it sounded like it hadn't been looked after that well which was a shame, particularly after all the love I had shown it :)
Just seen this on Ebay, anyone know its history? it is only a few miles from me in Bedfordshire so tempted to go and have a look, good price but probably not what I am looking for tbh -

That is a bargain of a car, the guy has Just bought a 458 and is looking to shift some of his other cars.
The Grip shifter is a bit odd as it has a Nitrous button incorporated. The owner used to be involved in the club some years ago
The nitrous is currently disconnected, Engine manifold went bang a few yrs back due to the Nitrous set up and engine was rebuilt, Baz thinks it has some good internals. It has Unitrax uprated Half shafts, Corsa exhaust, Stoptech Big brake kit and the handbrake caliper has been repositioned. it also has a line lock added for fun burnouts. The car has been used and is no garage queen, it needs a good clean under the hood and the paintwork could do with a good detail, but honestly the price is very cheap. If I had space and some spare cash I would buy it to add to my existing one :)
If you did not want the Nos kit I know someone who might be interested in it .........ME
So apart from a bit of cosmetic work the car is sound :)

Thanks Fatboy, knowing what I tart I am I am really looking for something more loved really but at that price it is hard to ignore, if I get time I will probably go for a quick look as after a bit of TLC I'm sure it will scrub up pretty good.
Do you know anyone who if I gave it to could get it back to A1 condition?
Fatboy 18
02-21-2015, 04:34 AM
Thats all part of the hobby for me, but there are some good detailers out there, I know of a couple,
:-) if you think about the price the other red gts was priced at and little extras,, then think seriously at what this one is priced at there is a huge slush fund for a detailer any any tweaking necessary. No brainer in my book, this is Gen 1 rt/10 monies for a GTS with all the goodies, remove the nos change out the shifter, (easy to do) Baz or I can do that. You could run this car for a while and sell at the same or higher price if you give it a good clean and pick the right time to sell.
Fatboy 18
02-21-2015, 04:43 AM
The front nose of the car has a fair bit of rash so could do with a respray, Baz knows of a really good paint guy.
it cost me more to bring my car with the same milage into the Uk than this one is being advertised for. You were looking at spending up to 40k so this is almost 2/3rds the price?
Vipers
02-21-2015, 06:46 AM
MMmmm, Very compelling points Fatboy, I would probably swap out the nose and add a spoiler anyway so that would sort the nose issue out.
I'll give it some thought,
Cheers,
Luisv

You cannot go wrong with an FE! It is the most beautiful GTS of all.... if I do say so myself.... :-)

The ebay add you asked about is a 1997 car not an FE.

Yes, I'm assuming that Luis was referring to the FE I went to look at earlier in the thread.
Regarding the other one you mention Fatboy, that is exactly what I am after, if I had just taken delivery of the Exige a couple of months ago I would have been all over that, it really looks perfect, looks like I'd better sell some more HiFi quickly :)

Except they have a few more stickers on them ;)

NICE, So let me get this right, there are 9 of these in the world and 2 are in the UK? Excellent, I notice that the wheels in the link are different to yours though, do you know what the story is there? Have to say that the 4 blade rear diffuser looks much better :)
Would you say that the asking price of $64,900 is fair, I guess there would be some movement there.
Lastly in you expert opinion Fatboy, would you go with the one in your link or the one below as that has been advertised at a similar price before going onto ebay, I'm guessing the FE Daytona?

Well that's a difficult one, the Autoform/ Woodhouse Daytona 91 car would be the more collectable and should hold its value better. The wheels fitted to that car are not the original ones, it also had Michelin Pilot sport 2 tires fitted, the original car would have had pilot sport 1s (no longer made) This 91 car also comes fitted with the Safety roll bar, its an FE car with numbered plate. The seller may also have the original wheels too? might be worth enquiring?
Yes you're right 9 made 2 in the UK already :)
The Red Viper with Silver stripes you have found in your link looks amazing, can't believe the mileage either!
You would have spare cash for mods with that car :)
Autoform front end, check :)
Corsa rear exhaust, Check :)
Belanger Headers, Check :)
GT2 Rear wing, Check :)
Mileage, unbelievable!
Stock untouched interior.
One thing that you should be aware of.
The Stock Autoform Safety roll bar fitted to these cars limits seat travel, Im just shy of 6ft 2 inches. You lose the last rearward click on the seat travel and its hard to tilt back the seat. So it can feel a little cramped.
To get over this you need to fit a seat lowering kit to get better seat travel :)
If you wanted to sit in any of these cars (or mine) to check out seat positions drop me a PM with your contact number and we should be able to sort something out.
But its not a 2002 FE, it will have ABS. The FEs were Red with White stripes.

I've been doing some digging regarding the FE Daytona GTS that is for sale and it looks like a good buy on the face of it, Maurice Liang knows of the car as it used to belong to a member in his club, below are a couple of pictures he took of the car back in 2011.
One thing I did notice on the pics of the advertised car is that it looks like a chunk is missing from the inside arch where it joins the splitter, does anyone know if this is easily fixed, also can the front splitter be easily replaced also as it looks a little marked?

I have to admit after speaking to Lawton Brook yesterday I am quite keen to go and have a look, it is a great price and a car that really is close to my heart, I found all the letters and paperwork the other day from the late 90's that went back and forth with Hennessey and Steve Everritt who designed the kit, yes no e-mail back then :-)
I would still prefer the 91 car but this works out almost half the price, just need to figure out if I still like the look, not sure about the rear wing nowadays, a little OTT, still love the front end though.

I'm wanting a gen 3, I fell in lust with them instantly when I saw a silver one in Florida in April 2003 . It was being followed by a black RT/10, so after a quick U-Turn we chased them for a while down the road in our hired Dodge caravan, while my wife fumbled for the camcorder. We managed to get a minute or so of shaky footage, which I've watched hundreds of times since. Later the same day we went to the cruise at Old Town Kissimmee, and it turns out both cars were owned by the same person.
Back then it was just a wild dream, but now after the kids have grown up and I've just taken a deposit on one of my Mustangs, the dream is definitely on!
I bought the plate in my avatar last year, ready for the big day!

Excellent! Good luck with the search! A Gen 3 convertible would be a more economical route so if you prefer the design, so much the better! If you go with a coupe, then you might be at about the same price as a Gen 2 GTS. Either way....you'll love it... good luck!

I would be afraid of adding miles to a 13 year old highly collectible car with only 1,600 miles on it to date. Would stop me enjoying driving it tbh.
Yes sometimes too low a mileage really is a bad thing, there are a couple of beautiful RT/10's around at the moment, a 1994 with only 493 miles on the clock, you just wouldn't want to use it though, amazing really how it has stayed so low,

Good luck hunting down your perfect Viper sonicbloo, would you consider importing? really opens up the options, just a shame regarding import tax but no way around that one unfortunately.
Great plate btw, keep us posted.
hi Vipers
I've imported 2 mustangs (in 1998 and 2005) from the US, and would do so again (I've already put feelers out with a contact in southern Florida) but the £/$ rate has gone against us Brits since August 2014 @ $1.71 - to today @ $1.49, so its not really the best time to import. Europe however is a totally different ballgame with the euro at a 8 year high.
If I had the cash, I would be importing the 2010 white Viper from Germany with only 2800 miles on it. http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/dodge-viper-8-4-srt-10-mit-nur-2840-meilen-gelaufen-hemmingen-hannover/194210865.html?lang=en&pageNumber=3&__lp=4&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=searchNetGrossPrice&makeModelVariant1.makeId=7700&makeModelVariant1.modelId=12&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&damageUnrepaired=ALSO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&export=ALSO_EXPORT&noec=1 Its been for sale for months at 74990 euro, which is £54000 at todays rate.
I like the look and price of this GTS in Austria at 38500 euro = £27800 http://suchen.mobile.de/auto-inserat/dodge-viper-wien/206893997.html?lang=en&pageNumber=1&__lp=4&scopeId=C&sortOption.sortBy=searchNetGrossPrice&makeModelVariant1.makeId=7700&makeModelVariant1.modelId=12&makeModelVariant1.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant2.searchInFreetext=false&makeModelVariant3.searchInFreetext=false&damageUnrepaired=ALSO_DAMAGE_UNREPAIRED&export=ALSO_EXPORT&noec=1
Anyway, I'm getting my cash together and will update when I have more news

hi Vipers
...I've already put feelers out with a contact in southern Florida....
As I mentioned before, feel free to ask if you'd like me to look at a car... I live in Miami so I'd be happy to help with anything from West Palm Beach to Homestead Florida. I am in the middle and drive all day anyway... shooting out to see a car is always a pleasure.
I will, at the very least, give you a good/bad review before you have a tech look at the car....
In any event.... good luck

If you want a better exchange rate then the USA, just look North to Canada. The British Pound is doing very good against our Canadian Dollar. I think it is around $1.88 and rising.

Have to say that the White Viper is stunning, do you still have to pay import duty on cars from Europe?
This black RT/10 showed up on eBay last night which I think looks absolutely stunning, don't seem to see many in black -

Good point, are there any sites you can recommend that list Vipers for sale in Canada?
You can try kijiji.com, that is where I found my most recent car. Or their is www.autotrader.ca. Those are the only 2 I ever use.

That's very kind, and goes to show how great the car community is across the world. I'll do the same if you ever want a car checking out in Northern England, maybe an old Austin Allegro perhaps !!!!!!!!!

The way I read it on the DVLA website, the answer is NO. As long as the car has duty already paid in a EU country, and is either over 6 months old or over 6,000 km. You would only need to import (self - drive?) then MOT it before registering it.
Second-hand vehicles
You don’t usually have to pay VAT if you’re importing a second-hand vehicle and the VAT was paid in another EU country.
You’ll have to pay VAT if your vehicle is classed as a ‘new means of transport’ - ie it’s less than 6 months old and has done less than 6,000km (about 3,728 miles). HMRC will tell you if this is the case.

If anyone has got any questions about this car I know a reasonable amount as I owned it for 4 years and had the kit developed for it as well as a full respray and re-trim.

It is not showing on Autotrader now so not sure if it is sold now, if so I hope the new buyer posts on here.

Hey,
Just letting you know I was scrolling through instagram photos of Vipers this morning and this car popped up in the feed. I left the guy a message as to where he saw it. Looks like a driveway, the top was on it.
