View Full Version : How loud? Belanger/cat/catback versus Belanger/cat+stock catback

Last decision for the car, which exhaust combo to take.

I am buying Belanger header and hiflo cats.

Deciding on full Belanger with catback vs using the stock catback.

Anyone done the full system and sorry about it cause it's too loud?

Anyone done it with stock catback and sorry cause it's too much like stock?

I know safe bet is go with stock catback option, but at only a few hundred more for the full system it'd be nice to go that way if I should now, versus having to buy a Corsa to add later if I'm not happy for much more $.

Thanks, all.

I was going to go with the Belanger and stock cat back option, until I read about the vibration issues at idle. Now it's just down to Corsa or Belanger? Everyone seems to say there is a drone with the Bellangers at highway cruising speeds. I'm leaning toward Belanger/Corsa combo.

Hmm, hadn't read that vibration issue. That would be a BAD thing for sure. Thanks.

No vibrations here and prefer the stock catback. good luck

I'm sure there are some that don't have the vibration issue but I don't want to risk it. Maybe a better way to describe it is a slight "shake" at idle. I read this post and also spoke to Mark at Woodhouse to confirm as he has done quite a few installs of various combos.

To be clear the vibration issue mentioned is only with an aftermarket header and STOCK catback. Replacing the entire exhaust apparently cleans this up.

I have the Belangers/Corsa option installed and have never had a vibration issue. The drone is minimal cruising at 80. It is "loud" especially WOT but sounds great and my wife doesn't even mind it.

Not every car with the stock catback has the idle rattle, but more than 1/2 have no matter what we tried to adjust. We worked with Lou over 4 different systems measuring and changing angle to fit it with only marginal gains. I think we have it about as good as it gets with the setup now and I still would rather see people with a Belanger cat back to insure there were no issues as the motor mounts loosen up. The engine on the Gen5 moves ALOT! and very easy at idle, (you can stand under the car, grab the headers and rock the engine about 2" up or down). When Vibrations increase in frequency the mounts obviously "tighten up" and you have no issues, but at idle they seem to come back with some cars.

The Belanger system is not too loud unless you take long trips for most and I have had one customer with the Corsa say the opposite, that he wished it was louder on the road so that's my take. You can hear clips from most combinations on the YouTube channel I have though.

I have the Bellanger full system on my car. I had the stock mufflers on it when I bought and took them off right away. Was way too quiet for me but I like LOUD. I went straight pipes from the HF cat and now it sounds ok at idle and mid range but at WOT its INSANE. Too loud. I think I am going to put the Bellanger cat back on and see if thats a good compromise.

I have both. I have the stock catback on my GTS and the full catback on my TA. Stock Catback it much louder.

No knock on the Belanger cat back but it reminds me of a Flowmaster type sound.

Im not knocking any of the systems. I think they all sound like crap..LOL.. I just dont like the sound of the side exhaust Vipers. Havent heard 1 that I like. They just sound like a tractor until you get up high in the rpms. The only Vipers Ive heard that sound decent are the rear exit systems in the Gen 1 and 2's. Thats just personal opinion but I really wish the Viper had a more exotic sound to it.

I had full Belangers on my RT/10, it was soooooo mean sounding but you'd be deaf if it had been side exhaust.

Dman- Iam in the same boat as you and I don't know which setup to go with.

I heard the full Belanger system drones more than the Corsa Xtreme system.

Are you having Woodhouse do the work?

No, if I got the car from that direction I would for sure. I am very fortunate the car is coming up the east coast, I'm having it delivered to Tom Sessions, he wrenched my gen4 and is just awesome, so I know I'll have viper guru level work quality on it. I went with the header and cat but stock catback. Long talks with JonB, God bless him for his patience, as I waffled back and forth, but I figure this setup may be perfect and if I do want more I can then go with the Corsa, if I went with Belanger full system and it was too loud then I can't really do anything at that point. So I went the safe route with it.

You won't regret it.. At WOT it sounds the same and at idle it has that crispy cold start sound. Good Choice!:drive:

I had the same on my Gen I w/ the exception of Random Technology cats & loved it; will probably duplicate on the Gen V as well...

The Belanger cat backs that I sell are not the full bolt on elbow ones you were being sold. I spec the cat back to work the same as the factory or the Corsa as far as slip on after the cats so you would have always had an option. I hope that you are one of the lucky ones to not have any idle vibrations.

I plan on a Belanger w/Corsa setup for mine. I heard this combo on one of the TA's that Tomball had installed prior to delivering the car and thought it sounded great. I prefer a little higher sound frequency and thought it fit the bill. jmo of course.

Thanks, Mark. No matter what I decided against the full Belanger system, it's just whether I want stock or Corsa catback. With Tom doing the work I'm confident it'll be installed as well as anyone on the planet could, Tom's just awesome, so I'm betting less on luck and more on him, lol. If I don't like the result, I can always go Corsa, but take one bite at a time this way. Plus, with the new vid Dodge just put out, if they are releasing a Targa style vert like in that model, I'll keep this mod budget very small, enjoy the car for a bit until the vert comes, then it'll be trade time .. who knows, maybe we'll even see a PCM from MOPAR by then, maaaaybe. Darn lawyers.

I had same reaction, I did finally get to hear the full system and the tone hits my ear hard, probably from too much earlier damage from motorcycles, dirt bikes and track time without ear plugs, lol. The Corsa I know I love, I've had it twice, it's like you say, a tad bit higher and for my pathetic ears, much more tolerable even if it's droning. But we'll see if I go to the Corsa after I hear it with stock first, I've done several catbacks so not worried if I do need to swap it, but hopefully it'll be purrfect with the stockers.
