FLATOUT

So Nineball put together a great C7Z06 Vs. Gen V Viper Shootout today at Henessey's in Sealy Texas. Although track conditions weren't spectacular we saw some incredible trap speeds out of the Gen V cars.
Best I could get out of the Hoosiers today was a 1.87 60 foot and still managed to run several 10.8's (I just couldn't get the tire to hold). Was a little rusty drag racing but it started to come back as the day went on.
What you guys aren't going to believe is that Nineball got a 134.67mph trap speed out of Shooter's bone stock SRT track pack car. So Jack B I haven't forgotten about our 100$ bet but I promise you 136mph will fall to a bolton Gen V Viper. I weight 250lbs and had 3/4 tank of fuel and i'm still on the stock catback with TA aero dragging it down. We will see a Gen V trap 136 with boltons at some point if not 137.
I'll get the time slips loaded up later but for now here's a quick vid of the pass.

The Vipers did exceptionally well today and nothing got close to the trap speeds we were seeing out of the Vipers. The Vipers kept making passes all day, run after run without a hiccup. I was great to see.

Looks like some amazing DA. Thats a solid pass Andy, almost the same as my fully ported/bolt on Gen4 on MT's. Good sign for bolt on Gen5's, seems like another 30-50hp left in a bad ass heads/intake port job, so 137+ is possible on motor and stock drivability

Nice work! Your TA is moving. I just can't believe that a stock G5 ran almost 135...that's crazy! I've been following the threads over on the corvetteforum and they seem none too happy about the trap speed differences. It also explains why the G5 can run with a Huracan.

Let's be careful, those trap speeds with a DA of -1000, are not going to be the same during the summer or at most tracks. As an example most Ohio tracks have a DA of 2500 to 3500 during the summer. That is a hp diff of 11.25%.

For the novice here, how do you launch these cars, do you play around with traction control buttons, Do you start off in 1st or 2nd gear? what revs do you use? Are you fast off the clutch or do you ease into it?
The first time i tried drag racing in my Gen II, I broke a UJ and damaged the output shaft and half shaft! it was a very sticky track, I had not done any kind of burnout, had the revs up to around 2000, dropped the clutch and the car went bang!

I'll let Tony answer that, but even if they weren't it wouldn't effect trap speeds unless you had different tire diameters that would effect gearing. None of the non drag radial cars hooked (ever) yesterday. Even my car on Hoosiers didn't hook well.

My white TA = Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (ACR tires)
Orange TA = Pirelli PZero Corsa
Black SRT = Michelin Pilot Sport Cups (ACR tires)
The Corsa tires had more grip, and required less of a burnout. So if anything, the Sport Cups made us run slower. They are horrible tires on a cold drag strip.

1st gear start. Slipping out the clutch, trying to balance throttle/clutch/wheelspin. I usually start out at around 3800-4000 rpm on the stock tire grip. Traction Control OFF.

The discussion about the Vipers being on non stock tires over on CF is absurd. Some of those guys will grab onto anything as to why their Z didn't win everything. The same will happen now when you get a group together for a road course, unless you find a Viper with Corsas they will attempt to invalidate all lap times.

Even given the great DA, I still didn't think we would see more than 130-131mph consistently stock. What's the fastest trap a Gen4 coupe has run stock? I don't remember anyone breaking 130.

The red C7 Z06 had a non-factory windshield decal banner. Surely that helped just as much as my tires did. He ran 14s. With Sport Cups on it.

Only car that had a tune on it is mine due to the headers, all of the other Gen V's were completely stock. In fact Shooters car trapped 132mph with him driving it, and he's NEVER been on a drag strip. The one thing I noticed yesterday about the Viper camp was everyone kept making passes, kept practicing, and kept improving. Everyone was helping each other with driving tips, and by the end of the day it showed.
No EGO's,no complaining, everyone just kept working at it all day.

I think the Gen IV coupes are equally as fast maybe only down 1-2 mph at best to a gen V. I think we just never had anyone run one (Gen IV coupe) in great DA. Malu ran 10's in his in good DA and I think went 10.9@129 but who knows how good that DA really was.

Was an auto car, it struggled at the strip to hook up. I think it may have trapped 126-127 maybe? Probably very similar to the Z06's and there is word that it ran the Silver Z06 that went 10.9@128 on the way home and the Hellcat walked it every race. I have not seen the video yet but I was oretty surprised to hear that, I expected them to be about dead even.

If you watch some videos of Vipers from behind when running quick times at the drag strip, you'll notice a puff of smoke coming from under the car...that's the clutch smoking from slipping it trying to get it out of the hole without too much wheel spin, but not bogging it at the same time. Some people mistake it for tire smoke, but the smell would tell you otherwise. Mmmmmmm mmmmmm...toasty.

No he spun. Running heads up at the drag strip is a different game, you absolutely have to put down a solid pass and be quick on the tree. I usually dial back the launch RPM's to make sure I get out clean without spinning and I make sure to be as quick on the tree as I can.
He fully staged and then I prestaged. I then staged and made sure I was immediatly at my launch RPM and the lights started dropping almost as soon as I rolled in. Went green and I didn't look back until the finish. Ended up being my quickest et of the day.
I know they filmed it but since he spun I doubt I'll ever see the vid.

Wow. Almost 135mph out of a bone stocker is miles ahead of the nearest magazine time or any other owner documented time I have seen...I'm starting to see why they can hang with Huracans and full bolt on late model GTR's when you drive them like this. I guess we can now consider the Viper a 13xmph trapping car now. Glad to see this finally happen and seems repeatable with the right drivers.

I roasted those tires without mercy in the water box. The Corsa's had more grip than the Sport Cups, they were even harder to keep burning out on, they started to grip too much. Pretty sure I could run a 10 on Corsas, if the track prep was stellar. Sport Cups are pretty horrible on the drag strip, lol.
