A friend of mine is picking up a new 2013 viper with 6 miles, is it recommended to change the oil because its been sitting for over a year with fresh oil. Does the factory use a special break-in type oil.

Would recommend keeping it under 4000 Rpms for the first 500 miles, and then changing the oil at that mileage also. You are essentially just flushing the system, but the new motors are super tight , so good idea.

Some cars have come from the factory with the break in oil still in them rather than the regular motor oil. I would suggest having the oil changed either way - better to be safe than sorry as the break in oil will cause the motor to blow if you put too many miles on the car.

Do exactly what Bill has stated and continue to monitor closesly after the first oil change. It is not uncommon for these cars to use a lot of oil till around the 5000 mile mark.

No such thing as "break in" oil in the Viper's V10.
