Dan Cragin - Specialty Performance Team 661-588-2882
Dan will be performing required Tech inspections for the Vipers and we recommend that you have him do it prior to attending Viper Tracks 2015. This way any issues can be properly corrected before the event. Dan is renowned as one of the best in the Nation when it comes to Viper Techs and we are lucky to have him here on the West coast.

Mike Bell - Motor Village LA 877-849-0771
Mike and his team at Motor Village LA have committed their efforts to support the Viper owners and help promote the brand. If you are looking for a new Dodge/Chrysler product in the So Cal area, visit Motor Village and see what they can do for you.

Paul Normandin - Normandin Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram 877-330-0391
Paul and his team have been long time supporters of the Vipers up in the Bay area. It is great to have them recognize the significance of this event and help sponsor the event. If you are looking for a new vehicle, they will likely have exactly what you are looking for.

Todd Gomez - Bad Boyzz Garage 916-505-9026
Toddy has a long history with the Vipers and has developed a great line of performance upgrades which are proven for the track. If you are looking to increase HP or performance, definitely call Toddy and see what he can do for you.

Viper Tracks - High Performance Driving Event Tech Inspection

Specialty Performance Team is offering a free pre-event Tech Inspection to all entrants of the Viper Track - HPDE event January 17-18 at Buttonwillow Raceway.

Every car will receive a 60 point vehicle inspection with report and signed Tech Sheet (upon approval).

I highly recommend everyone have their car inspected before the event. Track Day inspections will be $15 and those who do not pass, may lose a chance to get on the track.

Attached is a link to the West Coast Racing Tech Sheet

http://www.westcoastracinginc.com/Tech.pdf

Everyone will need a Fire Extinguisher / fastened in the cockpit. These are available through VOA vendors and SPT. Some will be available at the track.

Helmets must be worn and have a 2000 Snell rating or better

Lap Belts must be working properly/ 4-5 and 6 point belts are recommended but not required.

Tires must be in good condition/ no cracks / under 8 years old (6 is best) and no tire plugs. A good street sport alignment will assure good handling and tire wear. Check your tire pressures and torque the wheel lug nuts.

You want to make sure your fluid services are current, on Gen 2-3 cars without modified oil pans, it's critical that you keep the oil level just above the full mark. Consider an oil pan upgrade if you do not have one and never run slicks if you do not. Brake and clutch fluid should be clear, not brown. It can boil and you will lose your brakes or clutch. Two year change intervals are suggested.

Brake pads should be at 40% or better, rotors should not have light surface cracks that go to the edge. Brake lines should be properly routed and have no cuts in the rubber. Stainless Steel brake lines are recommended for better pedal feel and safety.

Check for leaks, belts and hoses should be in good condition.

Make sure there are no loose items in the car or under the seats.

Convertibles will need either a hard top or roll bar. SPT will have a limited number of hard tops (Gen 1-2-3) and plug in roll hoops (Gen 3-4), I currently have a commitment for 3 Gen 1-2 Hard Tops, 1 Gen 3-4 hard top and 4 approved plug in roll hoops for Gen 3-4. I will have an exact count shortly (Please consider purchasing either of these options if you plan to track your car regularly. Think of it as insurance, it's not a problem until you need it!

We are looking forward to a fun and organized event. Feel free to call with any questions.

What he said ^^^^^^^^ I would add that if you haven't done something like this you really owe it to yourself to try it. I have never met a group of people more friendly and fun loving than the people we meet this weekend.

It was my first Viper event and overall it was awesome! Got to experience the car in ways you just can't on the street. Not to mention that meeting so many passionate owners was a blast; add to that meeting Tommy and Eric and seeing their passion for the brand.

I do have to voice on thing, there was a disconnect between the various groups who organized it, track workers and the instructors. It was mentioned that there would be no passing on the right unless you were in the red group. Well here I am on my first few runs and I almost got plowed into 3 times by the same 2 cars that did not know that. A few other people brought that up later on during the day. But besides that it was really the best car experience I've ever had.

You would have been faster if you didn't go off Mazda at the end:) I was in the Orange TA and I think I slowed you down for a few laps, I thought I was faster but couldn't tell, so I finally let you by, sorry if I was blocking you.

Sure was a fun event.

Eddie,

Great seeing you again and glad you enjoyed the event, it really was awesome!
Congrats on winning the set of Pirelli tires too!

Regarding the passing issue, I'm not sure if this was the fact in your case but I did notice when I was instructing and riding in the passenger seat that many of the green drivers were not pointing by faster cars that were behind them as they were instructed to do. Some also stayed on the left side of the track in the passing zones making it impossible to pass on the left. Those cars should not have passed you on the right but instead should have gone into the hot pits and then been sent back out into a gap. Track etiquette and awareness are extremely important for everyones safety. The green group was out there to learn and were bound to make some mistakes but hopefully learn from them. The instructors should have been reminding the students to check their mirrors and point by the faster cars and not allow passing on the right so there probably was a slight miscommunication or disconnect with the instructors and students as you said. I will mention this to the organizers to help improve things at future track events.

Take care,
Ben

It actually happened in Grapevine, Ben, since the corner takes you to the left and then you have to transition to the right to be overtaken. It happened to a few cars in the first few runs because we were very bunched up. A few other people brought it up in class and then all was good but I think next time everyone will be on the same page.

Gary, Nice driving and thanks for posting the video. I, too, have a Gen V (black 2014 GTS, no stripes, red group) and I was doing 2:03's on Saturday (I was not there Sunday). I have a couple of questions. First, did you use "race" mode at any time? Were your computers off? And what were your hot tire pressures? Thanks. Mike

Thanks Mike. I was running in race mode for the suspension but I left the computer full on. My tire pressure was 31 PSI at the start of the day on Sunday morning. When I finished, my tires were up to 34 psi hot and squeeling a lot.

Do you have Corsa's or just the P-Zeros?

Very interesting. I have the P-zeros and I think they have WAY more traction than I expected. I have been driving a C6 Z06 until June of 2014 on Hoosier R6/A6 so I had low expectations for the Zeros but they hooked up well. Three days after Buttonwillow I was on my home track - Big Willow - and they still gripped nice enough to do a 1:32. My hot air pressures were in the 36/37 pound range all around but I'm going to drop the fronts to see if I can get the little push I'm getting to go away. My fastest BW time came with all the computers off, same at Big Willow. I'm probably going to order the Corsa's soon so I'll have them on hand when the Zeros expire. I have 14 more track days planned for this year so it may not be the last set of tires I put on.
