The auto-x was one of the activities offered at Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Grounds as part of NVE1 in July. There were two different courses set up, which I did in my TA, and the video shows my second run on each course. Steve (Boba Fett), who also has a TA, but left his at home in New York, rode with me as navigator. We had a lot of fun. You'll hear me trying to get a little heat into my R-compound tires periodically;) You'll notice how narrow the course "gates" are set up, with not much more room than a car's width between the cones. I'm used to wide road courses, and was pleased to have only bumped one cone in 4 passes. I should try to get out to auto-x's more often because this was a lot of fun!
There was one crafty individual there who figured out that if he started way back from the start line that he'd already have some good speed as he tripped the timing light crossing the start line! I made the mistake of asking the marshall if I could do that and he said no!

LOL, good memories! I wish they had let me run the Camaro SS I had rented.
Although auto crossing looks like a kick, just not enough adrenaline and speed for me :icon_devil:

Not a course like the one in the vid. There are some that are much bigger and faster that are a lot of fun. I run one regularly that is very fast for an autoX course and I really enjoy it.

Auto-X is a just different kind of intensive car control challenge, with the adrenaline rush compressed into seconds as opposed to minutes. I competed a lot years ago before switching over to road courses. It was fun experiencing it again, and I'm considering taking up auto-x competition again for next year. I'd definitely need to sharpen a lot of skills!

You'll be pretty impressed at how good the Gen V is at Autocross. Having autocrossed a gen 3, 4, and now a gen V, the gen V is my favorite tight course platform out of the box by far.

Thanks! We should plan a fun day for club members to ride along on Victoria Day Monday in May. That particular event is a good one for me to have guests come out to.

Cool video Bruce. If you guys like speed , adrenaline . Pretty much like Formula 1. Drive a TAG 125cc kart around the track.. It even makes track days in a Viper feel slow..

Heck, that is how Mark Jorgensen and I met many years back. Would have to say it is invaluable in honing your driving skills and definitely helps as one steps up to road course performance or time trial events. Intense concentration and precision is necessary in running an autocross course and that in turn builds good habits on a track, where time is no longer compressed, but hitting your apexes and driving line is still paramount to a quick time. We are pretty blessed here, as the Solo Nationals for SCCA are help in Lincoln , Nebraska ( about 60 miles away ) , and the large airport surface means that the events can be relatively quick and wide open.

It truly is a beast! Just imagine how proud a guy would be to own that and a new Gen V!

Thanks. I'd love to do carting but I don't think my bad neck could take it.

Any Good Drag Racer knows How to stage a car (ie shallow stage for optimum launch) . And as I mentioned in the video , I did Not break a rule , nor was the official monitoring in disagreement !!! :D (Smokey Yunick would have been proud !....lol ! )
I feel Honored Bruce that you feel I'm a threat on 10 Year Old RUN FLAT TIRES !........lol ! :bth_smiley_formula1

Heck no...I was going easy trying to recalibrate my brain from road course to auto-X, and wondering how I was going to get this wide car through those narrow gates! It'll take a few events just to look respectable out there!

You'd have a blast at the autocross I go to, much quicker than this one. Ralph has some great autox vids in his gen V where he is flying.

I found there was too much waiting around involved with the autocrosses I used to do, always waiting for your turn. But it was still fun to try this one in the new car.
Same with most HPDE's where there's often 4 run groups, with each only getting 5 - 20 minute sessions per day. Out of 14 lapping days I did this year, 11 were unlimited track time with no run groups which was just perfect. Track closes for an hour at lunch and you can otherwise drive until you run out of gas.

We did too with you guys and your friends. Let's do it again in New Orleans!
