Question for the Forum. I have a 98 rt, and had trouble hooking up on the track. I have the stock 3.07 rear. Would changing to a 333 or 350 rear give better traction off the line? If not, what other options are there?

By track do you mean dragstrip? I really like my 3.55 for the street but I am not a dragstrip afficiando in my Viper despite 10 years of driving drag cars. I don't think a lower rear end helps much on launch and I suspect that I would now have to shift more times in the quarter mile than I did with my 3.07. On a road course the gear has helped a lot, but I really only use 3rd, 4th, and 5th on the track. The gear change has made my car much more fun to drive on the street and made 6th gear useable. If you are spinning the tires, I think better (stickier) tires might help. If you are bogging and not spinning, then you can try a higher launch rpm. But beware half-shafts and gears are expensive and all that torque can do a lot of damage if you get axle tramp. There are lots of folks who do quarter miles and I am sure they will chime in.

thanks for the info. I meant the drag strip. I have brand new Z rates Mich's on the car. I did a nice burn out, but I guess I have to ease off the start and then hit it.

Probably too much rpm but you didn't say what your launch rpm was. But better tire spin than axle hop which will destroy your rear end or axles in a heartbeat as members can attest. Someone will come online and give you some idea of best rpm to launch.

Yes, adjusting your launch rpm and some stickier tires is what you're going to need. Going with a steeper gear will only make it worse, that is until you get your launch down pat. That being said, I love the 3.55's in my car. :D

This is what happened to my Creampuff when I took it to the Drag strip for the first time!

I run 3.73s with Hoosier drag radials. Hooks like a champ. I launch at about 2k RPM and let the torque do the work.

Just had 355s put in my 95 and it was worth every penny especially when it eliminated the drone in 6th gear and all over better performance.

Get some good tires and slip the clutch a bit on launch and while your letting the clutch out ROLL INTO THE THROTTLE. Too many people make the mistake of trying to flat foot it right off the line. I like the 3.07 gear, makes it easier to launch. Rpm wise 2500 is a good place to start. But it's all in technique. Everyone is a little different.

when I had 3.73, I had to shift to 5th in 1/4 most times.
