Chrysler Trademarks “Trackhawk” Name – Hellcat Jeep Grand Cherokee?Trademark Filing Suggests High-Performance SUV of Some Type

Chrysler enthusiast site Allpar, which correctly predicted the 6.4L V-8 in the Ram HD models, also uncovered a Chrysler trademark application for the “Trackhawk” name. The “hawk” suffix is best-known for off-road-oriented versions of the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee under the “Trailhawk” badge. Trackhawk suggests a more on-road performance orientation.
The Allpar story is somewhat vague on what the larger strategy may be with the use of the name, suggesting it could be an SRT-like sub-brand for high-performance street-oriented Jeeps, now that the SRT sub-brand has been effectively folded back in to the Dodge brand.
There have been rumors of a street-performance-oriented version of the Cherokee, almost since its introduction, with a turbocharged powerplant and track-oriented suspension. We know turbocharged variants of both the Pentastar V-6 as well as the Tigershark I-4 engines are under development, and it would not be a stretch to imagine one of them going under the hood of a high-po Cherokee.
An even more intriguing possibility is that an ultra-high-performance version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee (http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/suv/163_1308_2014_jeep_grand_cherokee_srt_first_test/) with the name could receive the stupendously powerful Hellcat 707hp 6.2L supercharged V-8 that debuted in the Dodge Challenger and Charger. With that level of power, the Grand Cherokee would instantly leapfrog the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, the BMW X5 M, and the Mercedes- Benz ML63 AMG. We can’t wait to see what form a “Trackhawk” vehicle takes. What would you like to see?
