Another Miss Informed Dealer

Have picked up a 14 GTS from a dealer here in Alberta. Picking it up on Saturday, Salesman tries his best to inform me that it has 600HP and if I want they will chip it to 640 HP. He is going to have his service manager phone me and tell me what they will do to it. I am thinking of going elsewhere to buy a car.

Hopefully it's just ignorance on his part and not just lying.
Should be an interesting phone call.

I'd wait to hear what the service mgr has to say and then make the decision to go elsewhere.

Hopefully that came with a price quote...maybe they'll upgrade it to a "police interceptor" Viper with a super dooper tweaked motor and no governor that will let you go 300 MPH while they're at it.

I would buy a bag of popcorn and watch the show. Surely the sheer embarrassment once the dealership owner finds out, will be good for a few more thousand off the final if you stick in there. Just bait the salesman to set up the meeting and then ask him to repeat the offer. You don't have to do anything but roll your eyes and sigh in front of the owner.

In the end, it does not change the car.

This is something Chrysler/Dodge should be made aware of. The salesguy is either ignorant or a crook, and neither quality is desired when building the brand up.

Love it ..................and can't wait to hear his response when you tell him the other Dealer you chatted with said if you add a chip to the new Viper it will void the warranty , so how are they getting it to 640 hp? Please ask him if it is a ruffled chip or barbecue chip , we all want to hear his next answer!!!

Here is the scary part, Talked to the shop foreman Who informs me he is there VIPER Tech and he is wondering if I want him to flash the computer when he does the PDI to give it 640HP. I asked him what the flash does, Answer he has no idea but it gives you 640 HP. Pretty good for a tech that took all this training. Then he comments that the guys that taught the training course did not know either.

The salesman is either real slick or ignorant to the facts. Go with your gut feeling. If you do go thru with the sale a final sales conference with the salesman, manager, and you would be good to sort it out.

This is unfortunate that this happens. A lot of the time it is an isolated salesperson which can ruin the reputation of a dealer when posted out on the web. Most stories here are also one sided and do not hear from the other party. I am not siding with anyone here just find it unfortunate. Ask them about the car brochure and have them look at the HP rating or have them pull up DriveSRT on the car.

Most Viper owners are very informed of the car and know when the smokescreen is thrown up.

Maybe the dealer will throw in the extended warranty. You do not want to throw a "Johnson Rod" and lose 50% of your power.

I have the letter from FCA stating my car needs the 28/29 recalls. I sure hope it doesn't need the R-28 as I have the only 600HP Gen 5 that my dealer wanted to chip to 640. I think I won't do it as I will lose my RARE engine.:Canada::)

Lying is just so second nature for most car salesmen. I like the ones who talk and act like they're one of their customers and then they pull up to work in a 500 dollar crapper. Haha I see right through the clowns. Glad I stayed in school. Run far away. This one isn't only showing dishonesty; he's simultaneously showing ignorance

I would have taken JonBs offer printed it out off the forum and seen if they could match the price :D Yeah, They were bound and determined that they only had 600Hp and were very embarrassed when I brought up the Viper on the Dodge website and showed them the specs. I told them more about a Viper than they ever knew. The dealership used to sell GM, Then when GM had there dealership cut backs they switched to Chrysler. They told me that they didn't know what a Viper was so they made up a name for a SOLD car and brought one in. Owner wanted to see what one looked like. I ended up buying the car, as because of the hassle of the 600HP issue got me a few bucks off. I've never been back to the dealer and don't ever plan on going back. Just had to save the car from a mis informed dealer.

Donk, I had a great dealership in Red Deer that I have bought all my Vipers other than this one from. I had no intention of buying this one but it sort of grabbed me when I went in to look at, everybody on this forum knows what I am talking about. The dealer in Red Deer was in business for 83 years. Trouble is they sold last month to Go auto and I am not sure where I will be buying vehicles from now.
