I did the first pcm rewrite today. The dealer (Brunswick Auto Mart) did the throttle relearn with the WiTech scan tool. The write was 2.5 minutes and the relearn was five minutes. The car started right up.
I kept it simple for the first reflash and only disabled the skip-shift. The process worked, the skip-shift is disabled.
Tomorrow I will do the second write:
1. Disable the cat protect scheme - this eliminates the over rich mixture at wot.
2. Reduce IAT timing modifier.
3. Reduce ECT timing modifier.
Those three should make most NA cars very happy.
I logged STFTand LTFT before and after the the write and nothing changed, however, it looks like the Balengers and cat delete altered THE VE and the fuel map is s little off. The car runs a little lean and both fuel trims are working to correct this issue, that is not all bad, but, that can also be corrected with HPT.

Yes but it's still heavily DA (weather) dependent. Load based dyno is what should be used to tune with.

I have a permanent wideband installed with a logger, any wide open space is a true dyno. I used to be a dyno junkie, I now get more detailed results with the wideband and logger. My little 600 hp NA Gen 2 was tuned off the logger and in-car wideband.

At what temp does the stock tune start to pull timing for the ECT and by how much? I didn't even think about it pulling timing there, my temps usually stay between 185-192 in normal driving so I never considered it.

The best part about it, is when people would ask me what it dynoed. I told them 991 rwhp, which was legit as my last dyno run. LOL. Closer to 1250 on a Dynojet, bench-racing style :)

It's not DODGE, it's Mopar and Lawyers that are holding another option back and at this point I don't see it ever happening because of them. I wish I was wrong "like I was when I released the info..." :-( but I think Torrie is doing a great job working out a tune that 90% of customers will be happy with right out of the box and still have the ability to give the other 10% the control they want to play with. Shouldn't be an issue...you can pull as much timing as you wish, and you can alter the fueling, although I'm not sure it would matter since most would probably be running a wet shot.

Correct, and at what point are we looking at a bigger fuel system? 650rwhp? 700rwhp?

You could always run a stand alone tank to provide the fuel for the shot and not worry about it...

According to the designer once you are past 700 at the crank (so say 610 wheels) you are in need of more fueling for reliability. Just adding a larger pump or injectors does not work look at the Hellcat with the 1/2" fuel lines for proof. I have also been told that to run this larger pump takes more voltage than the factory wiring harness can handle and running a heavier gauge loom is needed for fire prevention. FWIW.

Awesome. That seals the deal for me. I will be in a gen V within the next year. I was thinking a 150-200 wet shot and using an external fuel tank for the juice. That way I don't have to mess with the factory fueling system. That will make it a perfect car for me.

Ok I know we had a local Gen IV that made 640RWHP with head work, and a wet shot on top that had fuel system work done to it. Worked quite well, I'll check with him again and see what they did.

A couple Viper tuners are using factory Gen 4 fuel pump assy's and a boost-a-pump in Gen 3 cars, to see 650-700 rwhp via Paxton. Just FYI. I believe RC's car had a boost-a-pump also. But, wet nitrous systems don't require the same fuel setup as the actual fuel injector supply. For example, my twin Walbro 255 pumps (rated for 500 hp each) still makes 1200-1250 rwhp on my '06. No boost-a-pump, either. And it runs rich, with injectors at 85% DC. The wet kit is fed off of the regulator.

Torrie;
Do you have older GEN software coming out? I have the 96' RT/10 GEN 1.5 and with headers, cat back, KN Filtercharger Stage II and some other tweaks, it could probably use a little extra tuning in NA form. My current tech who works on all my cars (and is pretty much the only Viper tech for the older stuff in Colorado now) was SCM certified at one time however with changes in SCT, they now want access to direct bank accounts, etc. so he did not like how they were conducting business these days and di not renew. Looking for other avenues for tuning options.
Yes some have SCT tunes canned, but this is very high altitude Rockies, so simply plugging in an elevation correction factor just does not cut it. Been there and done that on other vehicles, not going there again. Anyway he works on everything from Lambos, to Mustangs, to Vettes to other Vipers. Might be a good avenue for him and providing tuning options for us poor souls in Colorado without much serious power support.

With the Gen V the OEM fuel system becomes unreliable beyond 650-660 RWHP. I wouldn't spray more than a 100 shot [on an otherwise stock car] until you get your fuel system sorted out. I'm sure plenty of folks will hit it with the standard 150 shot - and for most this will be ok... But I sure wouldn't want to be that one guy that it didn't work out for!
In my tests I have found that the basic boostapump or larger pump(s) install(s) can utilize the factory lines and rails up to roughly 775-800 (absolute safe maximum) RWHP (these numbers are for PUMP GAS only/not E85). Beyond these limits, you must upgrade the fuel lines, rails, regular, etc.... *If you plan to run E85, then the entire system needs to be upgraded due to volumetric demand.*
Once the fuel system is upgraded, I have learned that these bottom-ends are damn near indestructible (if properly tuned!!) with boost. However, with Nitrous, I wouldn't whack it with more than a 250 shot - and I'd pull A LOT of timing out in the load areas with that much spray (unless you convert to E85 - which is A W E S O M E on this motor! TIMING TIMING TIMING! BIG Power!!!).
I fully expect there to be a handful of 900 RWHP Gen 5's running around in the next few months... Headers, tune, Fuel system upgraded to E85, and a 300 shot of N2O will get it done.

I look forward to seeing what you can do with the gen 5. I should have my gen4 car paid off in a few months, then be hitting you up for tuning it. I'm a little nervous about running the juice till it's tuned currectly. The kit I got from you has been installed and not getting used. Granted if a reasonable priced supercharger comes out, I may not need the nitrous.

When I sprayed my 2010 there was no tuning out then and I had no problems. The only thing I did to deal with the lack of timing retard was run 100 octane fuel in it. The jetting is super rich out of the box and I verified that with a wide band. I would at least run 100-150 through it. It wakes up nicely :)
