I am trying to work a deal with a vendor on a Gen IV hood. I will try to get all the details together in the next few days.
I am trying to work with getting us a discount for multiple hoods.
These hoods would be a exact retrofit to the Gen III and you are able to install and use your hood shocks!
He also he different vent inserts that can be used or go without like I am going to do.
If we can get enough people I think we can get under $1300.
Once again this is just to get an idea if there are people interested?
Thanks

For all you guys that are thinking about doing this, let me add my 2 cents here outside of aesthetics. I put a Gen IV hood on my '05. The way the heat comes back over the top of the windshield is gone. Also gone is the way the hot air off the hoods comes in behind the A pillars. If you do a lot of top down cruising, the Gen IV hood is a great option in the comfort category.

I might be interested. Depends on who is making it, what the inserts look like, and material that it will be produced from?
Thanks.

I am going to get the pics and build info and post it.
Another problem that it helps with is the exhaust smell that you get if you are running no cats. I hear it really helps to reduce and almost eliminate that.

Under 1300 shipped and painted, or just the hood?

It would be unpainted. He could paint them for an additional price but if you have had paint work done before then you might know that it is most likely a good idea to have it painted locally so that they can match it exactly. He uses PPG and the right color codes but different color cost different prices.
As for the shipping I believe if you have the option to pick up at a major airport he can arrange for that for a few hundred dollars.
He is going to be coming to Austin, TX in September and he is going to bring my hood on his trailer so it will not cost me anything in shipping!
Depending where you are he could probably drop it off to you in between Florida and Texas? Just an option to not have to pay shipping!

I am interested for sure. What is deal with the OEM hood from the dealer? I have one on ordered & I know that it is on national back order. Any idea of if & when the OEM hood's will be available from the dealer?

I am not sure about the backorder situation. I have heard many different stories about the factory hoods and no one has been able to say with certainty if and when it will come out.
As for the hoods I am looking out it will be a bit stronger then factory because of how they reinforce the trouble areas. I am excited as I am ready for my car to have that Gen IV look.

Just found out that the reason the Gen IV hoods are on backorder from the factory is...... There is no one that wants to build them. Most of the manufactures of parts for the dealer want to deal in large numbers and the Gen IV hood does not a large enough need to get a manufacture interested.
Hope that helps a little?

AFSteve, Here is one pisser: PartsRack helps sponsor the OK Club, have for years. I have 2 G5 hoods (used) in stock. An anonymous OK guy with NO posts here , No profile here, starts offering a "GROUP BUY" here on behalf of someone else also unknown, and people jump in blindly expressing their interest!
WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE ?!
The old club did some things right, and a "group buys policy" was one of them.......ViperTony knows.

WHAT 'TROUBLE AREAS' ? Sounds like bovine-caca to me.
Stronger = more weight?
Your plan X also is not crash-tested. Prototype G4 hoods were initially TOO strong and could take out a windshield and decapitate a driver in crash tests...so they had to be made more energy-absorbing.
And those of us who have been around [for more than a month] DO know 'what's up' with OE hoods......

I have a GEN 4 OEM hood on order from a NJ dealer & don't know why they are on Back Order. What is the real deal? Do you have access to them?

Ouch. So I figured there might be those that are concerned. The company that is making these is Xtreme Supercars Inc. in Florida. Some of yall might know him? I am just trying to help some people out. However I do appreciate the feedback from Jon as it is important to make sure you have all the info. The only reason I am trying to do this is so we can get a better price. I have not got a chance to get allt he info together for this and was only trying to see if there was interest in getting these hoods.
I do apologize for stepping on anyones toes as that was not my intention. If I am going about this post the wrong way let me know?
If there is a better option for these Gen IV hoods please let me know but I have heard there is some cheap hoods out there and getting an OEM at a fair price in good condition seems to be difficult.
As for the weight of these I believe they will be about 25# and I believe the stock are about 28#.

Xtreme Supercars is a VOA sponsor so you are fine. Next time you might want to get them involved in the posting and or creating of a group buy thread though. :)

Ok sorry I was just trying to see if there was an interest. I suppose that I should have just waited a few days to get more info.

I get that people are trying to look out for the groups best interest so that anonymous members such as myself don't do the wrong things.
Oh well onward I hope.

Way to welcome a new VOA Mamba member here Jon! Not to mention a potential PartsRack customer.
I applaud any effort to expose potential scammers, yet jumping to conclusions and character assassinations without any evidence is probably not the best way of handling it. Ask your questions without handing a verdict at the same time.
Signed,
Customer who bought a GEN IV hood from PartsRack and had a great transaction
P.S. On the other hand, I only have 51 posts, so my opinion shouldn't really matter.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Many people avoid forums because of the territorial nature. Perhaps the best way to handle this is to shoot me a PM if you are interested I hope to move forward by the end of the week. These do get a lifetime warranty from Xtreme Supercars that guarantees fitment and any issues with the hood failing.
I hope this deal works for some people and we need to try to get at least 6 people together to make this thing work.
These do have the break points in them just like the factory for crashes, so hopefully no one loses there head.

Will these also accept the factory air extractors along with theirs? I like the factory look. Or maybe a picture of what theirs will look like, I might like it too?
Thanks

You will be able to use everything just like the factory one. The only thing you can not use from the factory are the grill inserts in the louvers of the hood. If that is something you want then get with him about the different options. I believe the factory inserts are made of plastic whereas his will be made of metal.
Hope that helps?

[I don't know anyone here that offers to help newbees more than me, but the initial anonymous posts seemed suspicious to both me and Autoform.]
Herold49: With only 6 posts at the time, No profile, and baseless 'problem issues' mentioned about OE hoods, I thought you may have been Alias #6 or a shill for an infamous scammer.
The problem is NOT Herold, but a lack of policy on anonymous group buys.
Welcome Herold.... OK .org is a good bunch of guys, even to Texans like you! I was worried that 'the scammer' had just recruited / suckered yet another newbee ...
LATE EDIT: this is an explanation, not an apology. The original anonymous group- buy posts quacked like a duck, waddled like a duck, swam like a duck.......

I think that was an apology but not sure?
However I did put this in the original post
Once again this is just to get an idea if there are people interested?
Unfortunately I am not going to go through all the terms of the website to see if it is ok that I help viper owners capitalize on what I believe to be a great deal.
Just as another member put it try to ask questions first and prosecute later if it does not sit well with you.
The reason I don't have many posts if probably similar to others that don't post and that is people can be some real jerks (if you know what I mean). Myself and others don't want to deal with jerks so they try to steer clear. If it makes you feel better I can fill out my profile to the max?
In the end I accept your apology.

Herold, don't take offense to Jon's post. You are probably not aware of the scammer he is referring to that has used multiple usernames to sell his own products...with the end result being either poor quality parts, broken parts, missing parts, or no parts at all. I believe he was just looking out for the Viper owners since many of us have fallen for said scammer's tactics.

If there is anyone interested in purchasing these hoods PM me as I will hopefully be able to move forward with this next week. This company is a quality builder for those who know him. You might disregard most of what Jon B has said in about the hoods in regards to Xtreme Supercars as I am sure none of his anger was directed at them.
There are 2 people in so far!

Why not just buy a Seibon CF hood?
http://seiboncarbon.com/store/acr-style-carbon-fiber-hood-for-2003-2009-dodge-viper.html
They can be had all day long for about $1300 have had good reviews, lighter than stock and you can leave it as is or paint it. Seems like a no brainer to me..

I am glad that the Seibon hood is working for you. I have heard that you can use the factory hood struts with the Seibon as it is not strong enough.
I took this clip off of Seibon website
All hoods require hood pins for safety reasons. Seibon will not be liable for any damages to the product and the vehicle caused by not properly using hood pins.
I am assuming they might be saying that as it is not as strong and there is a chance that it can break as some of their hoods have done.
For me I want to be able to use the hood struts and have all the durability of a factory setup.
From Seibon website
All products are intended for off-highway uses only, and should be used for their intended purposes only. Seibon does not take responsibility over buyer installation, modification, and unusual stress of the products.
I realize that many thing say offroad use only and if you use the hood pins I think this product is fairly safe.
Just my 2 cents.
P.S. The car looks great!

There were only a few people that pulled the trigger on this deal. It seemed like there were more people interested but just a bit weary of what kind of product they would receive. I did get a hood for my Gen 3 and test fitted it on my car but I have not installed it as it still needs paint. I can tell you that doing business with Xtreme Supercars was a pleasure and continues to pay dividends for me as they are very helpful when I ask question about other things. It seems if they don't know the answer they know someone who can help. If you want to know more about the actual hood you can call and ask all the technical questions about how it was built, weight, shipping, etc.
