View Full Version : Curious... How much money does one need to spend in order for the factory to do...

So... I've been wondering, I've spent a pretty penny on Chrysler cars, 12 of them with 10 of which being SRT's over the past few years. So I'm a little jaded when I asked questions like when can I order the hellcat is there a way you can deliver one to me by early december for tax purposes. With that said not only do they not have an answer for me, but people like Wayne and De'ann, Jay Leno, and whoever else on their VIP list can not only ask for the car now, they can have it custom painted for them...

Anyone have an explanation?

Sorry, you have to be somebody to get that kind of treatment. And I don't say that sarcastically, it's just the way the world turns.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of tax purposes? I was trying to figure out what that would be unless it was a company car.

Take some advice from someone that has recently ordered a Chrysler product in its first year of production: Don't.

Wait for them to start hitting the lots first, just to prove they get built/delivered on time. Otherwise, the dealership inventory cars will come out before your ordered car does.

There's no loyalty for preferred customers with most companies and that's sad. I bought two Gen V's within a year (SRT), and basically got the same answer regarding SRT Hellcat. Not for nothing but we loyal SRT customers should be rewarded for our loyalty. Ferrari has this business model in place, and you know what, it works. Keeps their loyal customer base loyal, plus makes the product seem more "special" if loyal customers get first dibs on what should be a highly sought after product. I feel pretty strongly as a loyal, high end SRT customer (also have previous Gen vipers) about not having right of first refusal on this car, so I now decided not to buy one. There are so many other awesome cars out there, and I will look at other performance cars to add to my stable. It's bad business to slight your most loyal customers!!

I honestly don't think I'm asking for much. I'm not asking for anything for free. I'm simply asking to give me an answer with regards to whether you can or can't deliver a car to me by december. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I don't even get an answer and I have 4 of their most expensive cars sitting in my driveway at the moment and have had plenty of other SRT's in the past.

Put a Tweet out there to SRT, with pics of your current stable. Saying you'd like to add a Hellcat by yearend. See what kind of response you get. Couldn't hurt. I tweet a pic of my 03 at a local show to SRT, and they usually notice. Try it...

When you're famous enough to be taking naked pics of yourself and use a 'qwerty' as your iCloud password and get the pics uploaded to 4chan and the news reports about it and people care ... then you'll get treated like you'd like to by Dodge.

Seriously though, I really don't think any amount you spend matters. Celebs equal marketing, they'd pay them to drive the car so they're seen in it. lol

rocket.... What did I miss? I did not detect any dick-ness in Johnies reply to you. ?? If you tweet your Cat inquiry at SRT, your brand-pride will get you a better response than any hint of loyalty-arrogance. But you WILL likely coax a response. GOOD LUCK! Nice stable of SRTs.... you deserve a cat.

Ask your CPA, but I think if you contract for one by 12/31/14 and pay a deposit some part of the "sale" is in 2014. Maybe the tax? Cash vs. Accrual basis may matter, I dunno.... But you cannot begin to take any depreciation until it is "in use".

Honestly you owe Johnie an apology as there was nothing in his question that was rude, he was just wondering like many of us - you could not meet a nicer guy either. Frankly , you expect to be given answers that not even Dealers have yet, so why would Customer Service or anyone else be able to answer your question -- car can not even be ordered yet!!

You never stated whether you have a deposit with a Dealer ( hopefully you are number 1 ) or if said Dealer is even aware if he will get one of the first 1300. They are doing very few cars in the first three months and many Viper/ Challenger owners have had deposits since back in May. Surprisingly there are quite a few buyers out there that have impressive stables like yours and they are not getting preferrential treatment either. We have one customer that has over 50 MoPars in his collection and he is in line like everyone else.

Jay Leno often gets new cars from GM, Ford, Chrysler as he promotes the heck out of the machine when received, few in the World have his kind of exposure or clout in helping launch a new machine.

I bet many of the dealers don't quite know when the vehicles are arriving yet. I agree though that tweeting to SRT with your current stable is probably the most effective way of getting noticed. Also, put a deposit down with one of the big dog SRT dealers around here. They are gonna be the ones who have first crack at inventory. After that, money talks. Perhaps a bigger deposit gets you a better position than a smaller one because it shows you mean business and are less likely to be buying it on spec to resell immediately.

I agree they should be treating their loyal customers well. But bottom line is there won't be a ton of cars. I would say if you make them feel it is a better move to bump you up on the list than not, you are more likely to get one. Tout your brand loyalty. Tweet the photo of your stable with the caption "just getting warmed up for my hellcat" or something to that effect. Perhaps a picture of your cars with the empty slot in your garage telling them that it is ready, just missing the car.

That would be how I would go about it. I'm not saying they shouldn't give current owners first crack or anything like that, just that this is how I would go about it if it were me trying to appeal to SRT directly.

NineBall has some good advice though. We saw what happened with the vipers with people who ordered vs the dealers. Plis we also saw the issues with the rear glass on the first model year. If you still want to be the first one around with one, Perhaps talk to the all the local dealers and offer a one thousand dollar bounty on whoever gets you one first. 1k in the pocket of whoever gets one to you first. Couldn't hurt.

".can deliver one to me by early december for tax purposes.."

Talk with your CPA...our business is listed for tax classification under the "accrual" vs "cash" basis for end-of-year tax purposes. Meaning if we owe something in the current FY (0214) and don't pay for it until the next FY (2015) it still counts as an expense for the 2014 year for tax purposes. After talking with your CPA, place a down payment in 2014 and wait to receive it in 2015 might work.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the situation, I'm not asking for anything other than an answer. The dealers don't have an answer for my question either. I have a dealer I'm already working with. This isn't about my "stable" or how impressive it is. My question is simply can you deliver the car by December. They were originally going to let us order them August 8th from what I remember being told at the Media Test Drives in Portland. August 8th came and went and now its "Coming this fall" what does that mean? If you as a manufacturer cannot produce something so simple as an ETA. Why should I be your customer?

Maybe they are spending all their time on the big blown Snake right now!

I would not sweat it. Likely the first few will be Hell-taxed negating the tax incentive anyway. There is always Barrett-Jackson this month. Stryker Red VIN 0001 is up for auction and you can drive that car home after the auction. It will be first on the road.

Since there is no historian here, Ill remind you:

1992 Vipers took 1.5 years from order to deliver.
1996 GTS took 16 mos from order to deliver.
2003 took 14 mos from order to deliver
2006 coupes took 11 mos from order to deliver.
2008 Gen 4s took 11+ mos from order to deliver.
All of the above were many MONTHS delayed from the initial management-marketing-dealer delivery estimates. Some buyers were spitting fire and vitriol over these delays. At times it was UGLY.....Buyers and this very site were ANGRY about G5 delays vs. what had been announced !

2008 ACRs took 8 mos from order to deliver ( ACR = an 'OPTION' package like Hellcat) and ACRs were released several months later than originally announced.

2013 G5s were promised by senior management to 'be in owner garages by the Fall of 2012' It eventually was April 13.

The lesson here is this: Any 'FIRST DELIVERY' date a dealer gives you will likely be unrealistic if not an outright W.A.G.
