Looking at picking one up for a DD GT model with the 2.4 engine.

Anyone one here got one? Just wondering how they hold up. I'm hard on cars...

yep, I have a 13 Dart Raylle, 2.0 with the automatic. Its a great little car, gets about 30mpg back and forth to work everyday.

I installed the Mopar chin spoiler to give it a little different look.

Just bought my wife a '13 SXT Rallye. Seems like a great car so far. Only has a thousand miles on it.

Where do you get aftermarket parts for this? I'm afraid to look under there and see a puny exhaust.:(

I really wanted to like the dart, but wasn't sold on the ride quality. I ended up with a 2014 mazda 3 instead.

I've owned my '13 1.4 Turbo/6-speed for 1.5 years now. SXT trim. Not a single problem (yet) in 14,000 miles. Great handling car, and great daily driver. Highly recommended.

I test drove the 1.4L once. I was expecting it to be crap based on what I had read online, but was pleasantly surprised. Its the same engine as the Fiat 500 Abarth, and has quite a growl for what it is. Yeah, you have to rev it up to get it moving but that kind of made it more fun for me to drive. I thought the handling was OK but you could tell it was a heavier car for it's size. For the fuel economy its probably a great car.

However, my girlfriend had little interest and ended up getting a 2013 Focus ST. We both love that car. Optioned out it was something like $27k and we have averaged 27 mpg over the life of the car so far. And its got 252 hp! I have Mopar in my blood, so it's tough for me to admit when something else is a good product :)

Does the 1.4t turbo feel more responsive than the 2.4 na? I like the mileage claims from the turbo but like the GT better. Haven't driven either one yet. Just peeped after hours.

I have a Challenger, Viper, Ram and a Honda civic. Civic is going and I'm bucking for Chrysler to pay me to be a spokesperson for them. Dart will make it a all in Dodge family:smilielol:

You need the 6-banger for the turbo to really drive nice - no low-end, but once you get into 2nd, and 2500-5000 rpm, she pulls strong. However, were I to do it again, I believe I would go with the 2.4, a very strong engine, from what I'm told.

I get high 20s on my commute, and have done 40+ on the highway. It's funny, because I'm used to high-torque manuals transmission vehicles - Ford Powerstroke, Viper, Wrangler 4.0, and I stalled this car a few times in the first week I had it! It reminded my of my mothers '88 RX-7 Turbo (engine is about the same size and HP). Except of course, that rotary in the RX-7 sucked down gas like a big block!

I'm all Mopar at the moment: Dart, 07 Superbee, and 03 Viper!

Sybil TF

Yeah I think I'm going with the 2.4 with the 6 speed automatic. I don't like to shift except when I'm in the mood which is Viper time.

Good choice Sybil, I think you will like it!

Ralph told me at Carlisle last year that my combo: 6-speed +1.4T wasn't a good seller, and therefore I had a pretty low-volume car on my hands....great, another collector car....not!

Actually, there were many Darts showing at Carlisle this year, and I might show mine there as a change one of these years.

I think a SRT version is slated for 2015 in AWD and turbo. Im assuming the 2.4l will be used like in the old SRT neons.

Got a blue GT. The harder you drive it the harder it shifts. It hits the gears really hard for an automatic. Reminds me of the old days when you put a trans pak in a 727.

It's awesome! She loves it and it is WAY fun to drive. It's pretty amazing how much the car changes between D and S. I recommend driving one to anyone remotely interested.

The Dart is a nice little commuter. But even though it pains me to say it, I think I would have a pretty hard time buying the Dart over the Focus ST. Did any of you folks check the Focus out prior to buying the Dart? They make awesome power stock, and some people are doing a turbo, tune, IC, and DP upgrades to get around 400hp. :dropdev: I despise everything about Ford, but that would be a hard to turn down package for a little DD commuter car.

Sybil TF

My philosophy is it has to have eye appeal first or I might as well get a Prius or a smart car. Focus is fugly, yuck and Ford is a dirty word in my house. I had a Ford once, never again. The exception would be a GT 40 lol

I guess beauty is in the of the beholder they say. I think the new Focus ST looks great. Maybe you were looking at the regular Focus and not the ST? But much like you Ford is a dirty word for me too. I haven't even had to own one, I drove enough of them over the years that I have no interest in owning one. Just hard to ignore that nearly 300hp in a small commuter car like that. Plus it's an Ecoboost so it will get incredible mileage when you don't have your foot right into it. You also get the Recaro leather seats. It's just a matter of whether it drives like a numb POS like every other Ford product ever made.

Sybil TF

I don't like the rear of the Focus ST. What's the price fully loaded and the mpg city/hwy on those? This Dart will be a two year DD for me then goes to my son when he starts to drive. He don't need too much hp for a novice lol

The_Greg
08-05-2014, 03:30 PM
Funny... Chevy is the dirty word by me and Ford is just a 'meh' word in comparison to Dodge/Chrysler/SRT.

Our optioned out ST was 27 and change OTD, we are averaging 27 mpg combined (50/50 city/hwy). It takes premium, but I think some models of the Dart also take the high grade gasoline too.

I have actually cross shopped almost everything in that class as a daily driver. The Dart had to be ruled out because of no Hatch option, but other than that it fits the bill for a daily driver. I have a bad taste in my mouth from Ford after a 6.0 Excursion, but I may try a Focus ST until Dodge decides to build a little hatchback. Honestly this market has become so competitive that all the brands have had to step up their game and in the end I don't think you can buy a bad one whatever the brand. I drive 40,000 miles a year so after 5 years they are pretty much throw away cars.

Well, with as big as this trunk is I don't need a hatch back. If I really need to haul something I have a truck. Ford may be a dirty word but Chevy is a forbidden word...

I'll take a Chevy over a Ford any day. Maybe I need to test drive more Fords? But every one I have ever driven was numb and boring. Ergonomically they are junk, nothing is where it should be. And then you have the whole ordeal with Ford engines in Mazda vehicles that all seem to blow up by 60k mi. They are the cheapest vehicle to purchase for a reason, you get what you pay for.

Well ,I'm sad to say that my Dart is failing the quality test. After 62.000 miles it is using 3 qts of oil every 5000 miles. Chrysler is trying to tell me this is normal and there are multiple complaints from people with the same problem... 0-20w seems like water to me but that's what is recommended for oil. They are either going to have to replace this engine, come up with a fix or put some damn thicker oil in it...

What engine? My Turbo has been great. Dare I say it....build quality is better than my Gen 5. There, I said it. In 30,000 miles, only needed the passenger sun visor replaced. Got a letter in the mail that the warranty on my slave cylinder for the clutch is extended to 5/50, I guess there have been issues, but not on mine. Probably just jinxed myself, since the 3/36 is just up - had it 3 years last week,

Nothing loose, rattling, no recalls - zip. And I'm NOT easy on the car.

Damn, hate to hear this. I bought a 6,000 mile 2014 GT for my daughter last June. Car has been freaking GREAT in the time we've had it. No oil consumption and 27/28 mpg consistently in mixed driving. Ride quality and back seat room are my only complaints with the car. I don't follow the Dart forums lol so will ask Roanoke about what they are seeing with the 2.4s when I'm there for service on my 300C SRT8 next Saturday. I've been thinking about getting her a Max Care warranty for it but if they're saying the oil consumption is normal, I guess it wouldn't do much good for that. You would think they would see all of the Mopars you have purchased and do something. Not good.

9k miles on a 1.4T and 19k miles on a 2.0L so far with no issues. Hoping to continue that trend.

I am going to call soon about the recall on the TCM mounting bracket on the 1.4T. And parts are still waiting for the 2.0L and 2.4L brake booster recall.

It got so low my car quit running in the garage thank God. Supposedly a safety measure on the car so everyone is telling me. Also, car started running rough and battery light came on. Battery was crap already. Went from 550 cca to an 850 cca AGM battery and the outside temperature and compass came on which never were displayed until I replaced the battery lol!

Not good.Funny thing, I get Chrysler would know about my 3 new Chrysler vehicles I have bought new since 2009 but the first thing he mentioned was they appreciate brand loyalty and "do you still have the Viper?" Everything I've bought since '04 and then some. Believe it's been 10 units, total. Got her the Dart to build brand loyalty early and won't be happy if it backfires.
