I just got done with the Viper Homecoming plant tour and noticed on the engines the throttle bodies are now metal vs our plastic. I couldn't tell if they were larger, but why else would they change that if it wasn't to make it larger?

IAT sensor issues maybe?

My guess would be just a supplier change.

I hope there is more in store than just aluminum throttle bodies.

Surprised that SRT didn't give us an opportunity to name the new color on the throttle bodies.

The changed throttle bodies was not the issue you missed today. The lack of completed engines to cars, frames, etc. was very apparent. Sunday will be the major announcement on why that is. Let's just say, didn't see that coming but wow. Can't wait!!!! Off to the Chrysler museum and dinner. Awesome day today. Factory was just amazing.

So where all the cars on the line with engines installed 2014's?

Good question. I saw at least a dozen rollers that looked like they just needed exterior panels and they had the metal TBs hooked to our air cleaners.

Would be the first centrifugal supercharger on a production car that I know of, instead of a roots blower on top. I'd be fine with that though.

So, no questions could be asked or answered. I saw some pic's.. are they 14's or 15's.

I'm sure as the weekend progresses we'll hear more. Frustrating not getting to be there though.

Koenigsegg did it first I think. Not bad company to be with.

I've always preferred Centri to roots blowers.

Andy, Ford installed centrifugal blowers on cars as far back as the 1950's. Example of one:
http://www.boldride.com/ride/1957/ford-supercharged-custom-tudor-sedan

Mercedes and a few others installed them back as far as the 1920s-1940s, and even had aircraft engines with centri blowers driven directly off the crank, with carbs feeding into them. Pretty cool stuff back then, almost 100 yrs ago!

Tony my comment wasn't meant to be taken literally, I think the Blower Bentleys even ran them. I guess I was referring to recent auto manufacturing using PD Superchargers more so than centrifugals.

Heck I love the look of the vert, but it really should be a factory option. I'm curious if the metal throttle body will be a direct swap into the gen 4's.

Well the entire manifold is a direct swap. I'm interested to see if its larger diameter and worth any HP or if its just a supplier change.

Not Hellsnake, but a Firepower option to the Viper.

Unless the programing requirements are different, im hoping its a direct swap, and that this may be leading down the factory supercharger road. The jeep guys may like this too.

The metal TB Is the same used on the Pentstar V6. Same bolt pattern as the current plastic pos.

If any of you recall about a year ago I asked if anyone wanted a TB upgrade....simple re-pin and the new connector is all that was needed. They are cheap at local junk yards. Picked them up all day long for $75-100ea. On my buddies test car we where picking up about 4rwhp. Not much but what it really helped was throttle response.

I do recall a few who I'll leave nameless being douchebags about it. Now it's coming from the factory like this...how sweet it is...how sweet it is.

Edit. +1 for the name Hellsnake...i dig it.

I remember talking to you about that so these are the larger units? Very cool I remember wanting to give these a shot. Are you sure these are the same ones? Kind of tough to tell from the pictures.

Well I was teased about word of a major HP increase and announcement for Sunday but turned out to be just a tease. Heard option names of Hellsnake, Firepower and Hellfire! At this point who knows?

Was an awesome event with awesome VOA owners, SRT personnel, marketing and engineers!

Wish I could say the same for the new Dodge Execs in charge of this now. Biggest disappointment of all was the extreme and noticeable lack of enthusiasm of the top three for anything Viper. Gentlemen it was glaringly apparent as I will touch on it in the near future!

Awesome event though and the VOA should be proud. Enjoy MY car Tony! :)

Digging this up from the dead, but does anyone have a part number for the 2015+ metal throttle bodies?
