View Full Version : Gen3 coil packs

This winter I am going through the whole car with new fluids and a full tune up. She is 10years old and a lot of the car is untouched. Seeing I have to pull the intake to change the wires, should I do the coil packs too? Are they known to go bad? Is there an upgraded version or should I stay the with stockers?

I know there is a company that has upgraded ones for the ram truck, which i assume is the same as vipers. Most people i believe are running the factory ones unless they are running stand alone engine management with separate coils for each cyl. Maybe a tuner can chime in more with better facts. I would say OEM would be fine unless your pushing over 1500hp. Not many failures that ive heard of with OEM ones. Ive had AB wires on 2 of my 3 vipers and they have performed great, and the OEM champion plugs work great

I just did this in April, was doing wires and figured for $169 for the pair it was worth putting in new ones, got them from JTSVP, they are made by Screamin' Demon, and yes they fit the cars too, same motor.

Put these in my SRT Ram as well, mine is a custom Paxton set up, no seat of the pants difference but was worth doing for the money while everything was taken off. Per Tony they should keep the spark strong all the way up and over the RPM range where the OEM supposedly gets weaker the higher in the RPM range.
